I tried it, and no luck. When the screen is on it constantly shows the CANON logo. I can't power off using the on/off button. It remains on all the time until I have to pull out the power plug. Worth a try and thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, the printer has only a LCD touch screen so there isn't a separate button only the on/off button. Modern technology :( Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your suggestions, I have tried as you say and cant find any paper residue lurking in the printer. It all looks quite normal. There is power going into the printer as the LCD screen is on showing the CANON logo but no more. I think it could bre a software issue. I may end up buying...
