    Tough clog in Epson R220

You are very kind to offer your R200! Should I live in the UK I'll accept the offer. Or, I would just give my R220 to you if you wanted. I have serious problems getting rid of things. You would be surprised to find such old things over here, still working. I am well trained in recovering...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Yes, several primes, several cleans, several full pages, but not a trace of ink. I really appreciate the efforts for helping me, truly. The fact is that the printer endured several years of duty. Metal parts look rusty, plastic parts feel fragile... should I had listen to PeterBJ and resist...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Yes. There's only one way to connect the printhead. You can pull out a little more of the cables and unfold them to help making your work easier, but there's only one way all this can be put back together. Here's an image of when I first removed the printhead, it shows the original position of...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

It's hard to photograph, but I checked that the cables and connectors are in contact and are aligned, on both connectors. Also, the way the ribbon cables are folded and layed out on the printer, it's impossible to accidentally switch them or turn them around. The cables are not so fragile to be...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

I wish you were right. the ribbon cables have visible connectors on one side and a piece of rigid plastic glued to the other side (I had to replace the original blue plastic for this one I found, about the same thickness, because the former was 'rotten'.) Obviously the plastic doesn't cover...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Thanks, The Hat. I think connections are pretty tight and correctly positioned by now. I remade these connections carefully, and with a magnifier glass I can see the contacts on the ribbons are in contact with the metal contacts in the connectors. The tip of the ribbon cables are very thin and...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Well guys, I finally did it. I killed my printer! After reinstalling the printhead on the printer, there was nothing but blank pages. I removed it again, carefully cleaned and dried the circuit board in the printhead using a circuit-cleaner spray (mostly alcohol), reconnected the ribbon cable...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Very interesting reading. I think I might have stressed these beaks when I was first trying to insert them into the plastic hose and syringe, when I wanted to flush cleaning fluid into them. Maybe the alcohol, although I used a very small amount on a q-tip. I think it was the pressure combined...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Sorry if I am flooding this thread with so frequent updates. I flushed distilled water (with little pressure) thru the head nozzles with a syringe. Indeed, looking at the water jets against a black background, I saw some missing jets at first, but eventually the jets got regular, and now look...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

lol I like that last statement. Yes, we know what we are risking. Or not... anyway, I like to fix things, and this will be an amazing printer now that it's feeding properly. I'm risking it a little yes but since it's so old, i think it's worth the risk. My main loss in case of disaster is...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Thank you again. The diagrams in the manual were useful, although it's pretty technical and supposses that printer will be taken appart. I decided to give it a try and indeed, removing the print head is absolutely easy - just needed to be careful and remove 3 screws (one on the side, two inside...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

This forum thread has been very useful to me, thank you all. I couldn't get any similar products to these Rejuvenators, but the silicon grease seemed to work fine on the rubber parts that pick up the paper. I'm very happy to see such an improvement in paper feed in my R220. I thought it was a...

Hey RWP! I have a problematic R220 printer but it's coming back to life, thanks to the thread you posted (http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/tough-clog-in-epson-r220.6096/) Unfortunately the link for the tutorial you posted isn't good anymore, and I now need to remove the print head. I...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Update: After I applied some silicon grease to the roller and band that pick the paper, feeding was ruined. As a desperate measure, I applied some very small amounts of SUPERLUB (spray general purpose lubricant) everywhere I saw moving parts, plastic or metal. Now paper feeding is working as if...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

In theory, the inks are a solution of dye in pure water, is that true? So the distilled water should behave the same as the ink?

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Sorry. I'm in Brasil northeast - state of Bahia. Not really the end of the world but some products like Rubber Rejuvenator are hard to get, and have to be replaced by more generic ones. @Tudor, thank you very much! To all, I apologize for my bipolar behavior in this thread. I don't know if...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Thank you both for your help, i really appreciate all the information. I'd say my printer fails to feed about once every 4 sheets of paper, and sometimes it feeds 2 sheets. Its annoying because sometimes i have to print some 20 pages documents on both sides, and i have always to pay attention...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

Pretty much! The only thing I don't know is how to turn off the head cleaning. This is a R220, it cleans the head when you tell it to, but I don't see any place in the driver/software that allows you to uncheck auto cleaning or priming the head. Should not be important. Thank you very much...

    Tough clog in Epson R220

And one last question I forgot to ask: do you think it would be a good idea to put water or windex into the refillable cartridges to try to clean the heads? and would I be able to reuse the cartridges with ink later?
