Amazing how actual experiences can vary so much, isn't it?
My first non-dot matrix printer was a Canon, I can't remember the exact model number, but it preceded the BJC-6000 by a good margin; I owned several of those. So long ago, there was no computer interface for maintenance, you pushed the...
You are indeed correct about finding new problems. Frankly, I don't care about the technology used to spit the ink out unless it impacts either the print or me somehow. I think calling the very successful bubble jet technology used by the millions across many brands is not "Just a steam...
I understand perfectly, especially about the use of filters on a color image to change the B&W look.
As to printing in gray scale only, try it. Use what works. Stick with Canon papers, at least until you start sorting things out. Eliminates a variable.
@peter D: Hate to tell you, but I've never had a problem with any Canon printer, including the PRO-100, with color casts in B&W prints. I usually convert to grayscale in Irfanview, although I've used a fair number of others, too.
Have you tried just using the Canon Print Grayscale option?
OK, got some sources for refillable CLI-42 cartridges, thanks to Smile noting aliexpress as a source for a print head. The retail branch of Alibaba, I guess. Twenty five items show up, including generic cartridges, ARC chips, and refillable tanks with presumably, ARC chips. Prices all over...
I'm having lots of fun. And I'm aware of the fading of visible light. A good example is a wall in what is called the Florida Room here. A half century of paintings hung on the wood paneled wall. Removed, and the wood has obviously faded a great deal. The wall never receives direct sunlight...
Wait! You forgot to request lower latitude bright sunshine! Not so much, I'm guessing in "The Garden County", Ireland. While I haven't and can't and won't run test with non-OEM inks, I have run a 42 vs 8 test. I'll scan and post today, probably. The good news is that the 42 inks fade about...
While I can't address your concerns directly, I've noticed that various bulk ink supplierprovide inks hugely different, one to another. Meaning, you look at the ink in the bottle or in the cartridge, all very different.
Yet, they all appear to print the same!
And good for you and all the millions of English as a second language speakers that show up on the intertubes! I have huge regards for the Dutch people which I won't star a political firestorm on this printer forum!
@ink stained: The Brightness measurement includes and accounts for optical brighteners. In fact, without them, all papers would probably fall into the 85-90 category. BTW, no one looks at prints in UV light.
I think that most paper purveyors give huge hints about how white their papers are...
Just because the Idiocracy has arrived, doesn't mean I need to participate. (Look for the trailers on Youtube for the movie of the same name. Average intelligence 20th century man is forgotten in an experiment, then is re-awakened 500 years later. He is now the smartest man on the planet.)...
Well, 48 hours after asking for a price with your linked seller, Grazer5, and 24 hours after finding another one that says they sell single sets, I've yet to hear back from either of them. No email directly, no messages for me at Alibaba. Not even "We'll get back to you ASAP."
Heck of a way...
I admit I am a Grammar Gestapo. It comes with decades of trying to write better and better prose; from accurate eBay listings to essays to short novels. Without particulars, if a written communication makes my head hurt, something's wrong. In this particular case (I went back and looked)...
@Ink stained Fingers: I think your observations of how many pigment inks Epson alone has had over time, and your experiments pretty well substantiate my claims. Holy cow, no ICC profiles or other objective standards needed to substantiate my observations. In the same time period you...
I don't think it's as bad as you bemoan, Roy. First, Whiteness has a standard that virtually every office type paper uses. Sadly, not as near many photo papers do. But the fact is, is that unless you are looking at really amped up white (96) compared to pretty much natural bleached (85), most...
I want to backtrack. I was wrong. After printing certain images on two Luster finishes, let alone many other surfaces, the Canon Luster is the step below Glossy. Don't know how I concluded otherwise.
I just picked up a box of 50 letter sized sheets on Amazon for a bit under $18. This Luster...
Could you please, kindly use standard grammar? I want to hear you and perhaps make valuable comment, but your syntax prevents me w/o hug head banging. Maybe I'm just old.
I know this isn't the hottest, burning topic. But..... I need to update.
Per some Amazon reviewers, there seems to have been a paper change along the line. I just used up the last of my original box of 200 and opened the new box of 100. The reviewers are correct, they are not the same...
Man, these postings make me nervous. My first post-dot matrix printer was a Canon, so archaic maintenance was done with buttons on the printer, not via computer interface. Something 600? I've gone through BCI-3 and BCI-6 and CLI-8 evolutions. Have never had more than incidental head clogging...
