The software company developing and distributing Babelcolor software - various tools for color/profile mgmt - has ceased operation and made some versions of their software available for free - but without any support anymore. Have a look you might be interested.

I tested several more Hahnemühle papers - Hahnemühle Photo Rag - Ultrasmooth - Matt Baryta - Bright White and even a Rice paper. i created profiles from patch sheets printed with the VFA settings and with plain paper high. Both use the pigment ink and deliver very similar black level values...
The impact of quality levels onto the gamut size are small - the driver is most likely switching to a smaller ink droplet size so the printhead needs more passes to put the same amount of ink onto the paper .
Here is an example with a budget level glossy paper Action 210 , the gamut displayed...
Epson profiles contain a private section with 60 kB - the last line in the tag table of an icc profile. The profile inspector does not open this section and does not display the embedded (hex) code as it does with the other tags. It honors the privacy of the data.
That's where Epson is most...
I won't get a VFA sample sheet for a test but I have a sample pack on order with various Hahnemühle cotton type papers on order and will do what we recommendet above - testing with different driver settings.

I did a test with a matte paper on the ET-8550, I created icc-profiles for various different driver settings; I used a matte paper Brilliant 230gr, I cannot affort to buy a complete A3+ Epson pack of the Velvet Fine Art , a sample pack/sheet is nowhere available. The coating has the most impact...
I'm a kind of irritated to understand what is so special with this Epson Velvet Fine Art paper and why it gets that much attention. Epson is offering this paper just in A3+ and A2, 20 A3+ sheets at 92€ which is pretty much at the upper end of the pricing range. Epson is specifying the paper as...
The VFA mode on the ET-8550 just runs with the highest quality mode which takes a pretty long time, if you select another matte paper you have a lower quality level available as well - standard and high, I'm happy enough with the print output printed with the standard quality level.
Ink pooling...
The printer just takes RGB data, not gray or ligh cyan or....the split of the RGB data into the additional ink colors gray - violett, light cyan,...... happens internally in the driver, and the user does not have any control over it. Gray is a color like any other for the printer. You would need...
I did this over the last days - I used the i1Profiler parameters for a 702 patch sheet as provided above by @pharmacist with the extnded range of gray spots, I'm interested to see what additional gray spots do to a profile, so I created a profile on two papers - a Netbit/Aldi paper 300 gr and a...
I must admit that I'm a kind of lost what the actual quesiton is, the ET-8550 runs on dye inks by product design; but using a product outside its original product spec is possible - at your risk and technical parameters can change - like the gamut of a pigment ink vs. a dye ink.
Using the 114 ink instead of another dye ink is not a problem, print quality does not just depend on the inks but very much as well on the type of paper you are going to use - uncoated papers - not specifically for inkjet printing - may create some dull looking prints. You would not get the same...
You are addressing the fading issue - dye vs. pigment inks. There is no test report out at all addressing this issue - no report comparing these inks - at all, but everybody assumes that pigment inks last longer.
There is tremendously wide variation in longevity between inks - ink types by OEM...
There are companies specifically selling pigment inksets for the ET-8550 like precisioncolors, but they only ship to the U.S. or Canada

or in Germany

or you choose inks which are...
A dual scan with the i1i0-2 robot table takes 11 min with a dual scan for the different M0, M1, M2 modes and just 2 min for a single scan in one of the modes, the driver apparently uses a lower speed for the robot arm for whatever reason for the dual mode, there is no control over the actual...
thanks a lot for your work on i1Profiler patch files; I downloaded tlhis last version with the 702 patches incl. extended grays.
I had to make a small change to get it working with the i1iO robot arm which needs patch sizes at min 7.5x8 mm sized patches. It most likely should work as well with...
Epson is varying the resolution nomenclature by printer model, drivers for printers like the L805/1800 or the ET-8550 which are as well photo printers with 1.5pl, available quality settings are 'Standard, High' for the L805 or for the ET-8550 'standard high best' for an Ultra Glossy Photo paper...
That's a great evaluation - very scientifically - of the practical resolution limits of the P900 printer, I would assume that similar printer models like the P700 and other printers with 1.5pl droplets would rate about the same. One variable would be the ink spread which varies with the coating...
