Fridge method for refilling BCIs and CLIs

:lol::lol: I proudly present you the Fridge method! No needles! No holes! No plugs! No seals! Only a syringe and a fridge! Here it is: Step 1. Drip ink in outlet port until the sponge is saturated. Step 2. Place the cartridge in fridge for couple of hours, outlet port down. Step 3. Take...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

Some observations for points raised in latest posts. I tried 10 cc, 20 cc and 30 cc syringes. 10 cc syringe is a no go, the working volume is too small. All I accomplished with it was to move ink, air and foam between sponge and syringe, with very little ink going to spongeless side. 20 cc...

    Canon ip4500 problem

It seems to me the channels for missing colors are clogged. You may try some gentle methods to unclog, like dripping cleaning solution on mesh screens and leaving the printhead over night on a paper towel soaked in cleaning solution.

    UPS solution for printer?

At office is a mix of laptop and desktos PCs. Desktops are also on UPS. The building has a backup power generator that, in case main power is down, starts running in 10 seconds. The printer is on UPS for these 10 seconds, in order not to loose print jobs, if any.

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

Today I wanted to refill the BCI-3bk cartridge and obviously I could not use the small orange cap. So I modified the holder by replacing the cap with a gasket used in a type of water tap stopcock. Now I can use it for both type of cartridges.

    UPS solution for printer?

My 2 cents... The main printer at my office is on UPS, but just to keep it powered until the back-up generator kicks in.

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

ghwellsjr Thank you for advices. A nice lady from a drugstore already pointed me to a medical devices store in my town. panos Just finished 300 pages print job, without any problem (mostly black text on solid color backgrounds, plain paper, standard quality, Pixma 5000, CMY cartridges...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

ghwellsjr Regarding 60 cc syringe with long tip, none of 5 human drug stores I checked had it. There ale plenty on-line, if one is eager to buy 40-50 pieces. Regarding rubber hose, I have a lot of automotive and hardware stores in my area, but none to sell only 10 cm / 4 inch fragments and I...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

My third attempt to "Freedom Method" Although I intended to do it by the book, it was not possible as I have not found 60 cc with long tip syringe (btw, it is called catheter tip syringe or in my area Guyon syringe). Also I have not found suitable rubber hose. To overcome these I build a...

Color Banding(?) problem with Canon IP4200

Happened to me too, with yellow in Pixma 4500, about a year from purchase. It was an electric failure in printhead.

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

The cartridge used in both attempts is OEM, previously refilled with alternate (lateral) German method. The hole was sealed with hot glue. In first attempt I used a 10 cc syringe and a 10 cm / 4 inch tube. There were air leaks at air maze and connection to outlet port. In second attempt I used...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

It is a bit more complicated. Yes, there was ink above the sponge but from multiple causes: - positive pressure aka pushing the plunger in one or two instances - there was a "preferred channel" for ink straight from bottom to top. This channel is visible in picture for both cartridges - in the...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

I tried it again, with better (but not perfect) seals and I was able to completely fill the cartridge. But as I said in my previous post, there was a lot of foam in sponge. Below is a picture with a cartridge refilled with German method (left) and one refilled with "Freedom Method" (right)...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

For connection I used a 5 mm/0.2 in tube fitted in a hole drilled in original orange cap (and a small hole in silicon gasket), with some rubber band to press the cap on cartridge. For air maze I used simple adhesive tape. As I said, I know the (partial) failure is because of me and not because...

    Freedom Refill Method for Canon BCI 3, 5, 6 & CLI 8 & PGI 5 and others

I tried it. It works, sort of. I got a half filled cartridge and magenta all over my hands. I know it is my fault as I improvised the connection between syringe and outlet port, also the seal on air maze was not great. However, I noticed forming a lot of ink foam inside the sponge. Won't this...

    Overview of refilling BCI-6 CLI-8

Yes it is. Really sensitive at squeezing during refill. Also one of four cartridges in a set of BCI-6 leaked a little during storage, but I may just overfilled. However, in use all it was ok, no signs of leak. As a side note, drilling the angled hole is not easy.

Newbie questions on refilling an ink tank (PGI-220)

I do not have your kind of cartridge, but I think the basics for BCI-6 CLI-8 applies. 1. Probably is ok. I have a set of emptied BCI-6 stored uncapped for 3 years and after refill are working ok. You may drip few drops of ink directly in outlet port, just in case. But have you left the...

    Overview of refilling BCI-6 CLI-8

This method is not new, it was presented and discussed in this forum some time ago. I just used it. This method (no. 5) and also no. 1, 2 and lighter valve belong to German method "family". All are just different ways to deliver the ink in spongeless side.

    Overview of refilling BCI-6 CLI-8

barfl2 This is the rubber plug I used. It has a partial channel inside that, when the plug is forced in the hole, it is closed. To refill just insert a thin needle through the channel, turn the cartridge upside down and slowly inject ink. Be aware that in time the rubber may lose elasticity...

Waste ink, Canon & a Serious Question

Hi websnail I tried your idea and it works! I did it to my IP4500 and is far easier than dismantling the hole printer to clean the pads. If you wish to receive some photos and comments please let me know.
