Haven't you got a T clamp in CISS set, to use it as The Hat said?
Regarding your problem as I understand you got white areas (not printed) and spots as if ink is dropping on paper. If so maybe the ink tanks are to high relative to printhead. Are the tanks placed at same level as...
I suppose you are top filling.
If so, from your description, the cartridge was overfilled.
The area with oozing is the air vent (breather), that must be free and permeable during use.
Now that you have ink in air vent it would be a good idea to blow some air in air vent (warning, only over a...
Overall I refilled 525/526 cartridges 20 times with German method without any trouble. When printer says the cart is empty 525 takes about 10 ml and 526 about 6 ml.
Freedom method would be better as it is self limiting but takes more time and as I do not have a spare set of carts I choose German...
My advice is to install the CISS immediately after you are sure the printer is full functional, in good condition (no faults that would need service repair).
Otherwise a) if the printer is faulty you may need a new set of OEM cartridges to send the printer for repair and b) if you run the...
I need to vent, too.
I have this Pixma IP4850 for about 3 weeks and compared to IP5000 and IP4500 is not an improvement at all.
Is is noisy, sounds like cheap thin plastic, it takes ages to start a print job and a millennium after a cartridge replacement/refill.
The ink is more expensive and a...
Presuming the tip of needle is indeed in ink chamber, you may experience a backward flow into sponge side as described here http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6971
For me keeping the cartridge (almost) vertical and needle bevel facing away from wall solved the issue.

As stratman said, be sure the third party chips are resettable with 525/526 resetter.
In my area a vendor of 525/526 resetter has a warning that the resetter may not reset all third party chips.
As an alternative you may buy ARC chips although I do not know how good they are.

Interesting observation regarding the ink going back into sponge area.
I noticed this behavior sometimes when filling BCI-6 cartridges.
To avoid this I kept the cartridge vertical, with syringe straight up, and injected more slowly.
If you are using a sharp needle, changing the...
Recently I put in use my Pixma IP4850.
As I do not have a resetter, to check the level of ink I cut and peeled the label on the top of cartridge above the ink chamber (taking care not to unseal the air maze).
With a small pen flashlight placed in contact with half of the uncovered...
First at refill be sure to inject only the recommended quantity of ink, I believe is 8 - 10 ml for black.
After refill, if drips, let it rest until it stop dripping.
Well, the missing nozzles was just the first sign that something is wrong. Yesterday it started to give errors.
After a print job is sent to printer it starts to print but depending of printing mode it gives one of the errors Paper feed error [6000], Paper feed position error [6B00] or Carriage...
Your cartridge looks like HP 56, that I successfully refilled many times.
The cartridge may need to be primed. Press it on a folded paper towel and see if ink is coming out.
If no, it needs to be primed. For this the best tool is a dedicated refill clip that allows to draw some ink out...
panos, The Hat
I admit the ink used was not the best but not junk either, and I had no previous clogging issues with it. Also the cartridges were filled correctly (OEM cartridges, freedom method).
How alleged poor ink can damage a printhead like this, in only 2 days? Friday the nozzle check...
Last 2 days I printed about 2000 pages of black only text on Pixma IP5000.
Before that, the nozzle check was ok. After, exactly a quarter of cyan, yellow and dye black nozzles were gone.
This happened also some time ago with yellow in my first Pixma IP4500, in similar circumstances.
All I can...

For your next attempt, consider also what I learned from my adapters: avoid repeated high changes in diameter of the path of ink, also keep the dead volume at minimum.
In one of my adapters I had the following sequence of diameters: outlet port, 2mm, 10mm, 2mm, 3mm, 1mm, 3mm, syringe...
I only used InkTek for 2pl printer, and I had no problems.
Tudor, if you find a ink source for 1pl canon printer please let me know, as I am waiting for my IP4850 to be delivered and thus far I found only InkMate, InkTek, and dyes (no pigment black) at cissrevolution.
From images it looks to me that the gaps are vertical and not horizontal.
Had you print in multiple pages per sheet or booklet?
If the gaps are vertical and considering the good check pattern and behavior in high quality print, it may be a ink flow problem in cartridge or a partial clog in...
