Printer shows an exclamation mark when the reservoir is empty (with approximation). There is still some ink in sponge. I cannot recall where I read this, manufacturer recommends to change the cartridge now because of possible lower quality prints. Myself I am ignoring it and use the cart...
Maybe is an artifact fron scanner or compression, maybe I am seeing things, but to me it seems the letters with universal black have more jagged edges from ink wicked into paper fibers.

If you question is not ironic, the answer is I do not know, as I am not weighting cartridges. My method to check ink level is presented here http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=47864#p47864
Maybe you have not received more responses because the aspects of using ip4920 and ip4820 (IP4950, IP4850) and corresponding cartridges were discussed and settled in this forum,
for example, please check http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5530 and...
Compared with Pixma IP5000 and IP4500 no equivalent current Canon printer has the same easy of refill and low cost of use.
However, my IP4850 is a decent printer and the cartridges, although opaque, can be successfully refilled with German method. You will need either a resetter or a digital...
First some clarifications.
The image posted is actually composed of three papers. First two rows are on Verbatim paper, second two rows are on Canon paper and third two rows are on Real paper.
Half of each vertical strip was covered with aluminum foil.
I am saying again, this test was not to...

Thank you for info regarding a proper setup for fade test, but is far beyond my needs.
My little test had the sole purpose of seeing the behavior of said ink in combination with said cheap photo papers and I think it was conclusive: InkTec ink faded visibly even on Canon paper, after...
Because I had a good experience with InkTec ink for Canon 525/526 cartridges (no clogs, good compatibility with Canon ink, good color reproduction) I was curious to see how it works with 2 cheap photo papers I currently have, Verbatim and Real glossy photo paper.
The setup: a pattern of...
Currently I am doing a fade test for Inktec Canon 525/526 and preliminary results are not in favor of combination Inktec+ a hypermarket brand of paper.
I may add Inktek. I had no clogs (with regular use) and color reproduction is ok. However, it seems the fade resistance is not to good, in special on cheap photo paper.
About CISS with pigment ink see here http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6163 in post #7.
For your second question as a general guide you can use corresponding dye ink in any cartridge no matter if the cartridge was supposed to use pigment ink (but do not switch back to pigment...
1. It is not a good idea to use CISS in Canon printers with individual ink tanks. The seal between tanks and printhead is in general not good enough.
2. It is not a good idea to use pigment inks in CISS. In time the pigment particles may separate and clog lines.
3. ip 4850 can use pigment ink...
Happened to me with HP78 cartridges. Refilled carts may develop air pockets near printhead that can be a real pain to remove. In addition to sock method described above one may try to apply a small overpressure with cartridge upside down, or to suck ink through nozzles using a dedicated refill...
1. Yes
2. No
3.Yes
Go for IP4500, it is a better build machine, and ink, compatibles and even original cartridges are cheaper than for 225/226 (at the number of pages per cartridge).
