Set up a Test print page with just the color that matches the cyan, which looks clogged. Fill an empty cart with cleaning fluid and print a number of pages, replace the cyan cart, print the cyan test page several times , test again, repaet as needed.....if the clog is tough, let the cleaning...
The "zinc" screws are not "zinc". They have a thin coating (pating) applied that serves to inhibit rust in "normal" environments. Contsant or continual contact with moisture will find and imperfection in the plating and cause the steel underneath to rust. This is similar to the old galvanized...
Based upon the limited info given for Christine's current use, ie, color is only needed for occaisional use, no mention of volume, one questions the need for anything but an ip 3000 (weighing 11 lbs). As far as an adf for the scanner, volume becomes the only factor in the decision making...
Space can be an issue, but the scanner is so light (6lbs) and small it can be "stored" anywhere until needed. The printer wieghs about 11 lbs, vs the MP750/780 which weighs about 30lbs.....so shipping will be cheaper for the two separate items.
The main differences between the Pixma 4, 5, and...
Sounds like you are having flow problems with the magenta cartridge.....try replacing that cart if deep cleaning does not solve the problem as the first step.

I can't help you with the CD printing, but the only true screen/printer output comparision is using photo paper and and the photo settings on the printer. Start using a a good quality glossy paper, color adjustment at auto, and the glossy photo paper settings on the printer.
I am guessing that you use the scanner to copy 8.5 x 14 documents....or multiple pages .....if you do not need those features, then you would be better served and save $150 with a separate printer and scanner. Otherwise, you probably have selected a fine model for your application...
Luster and Matte surfaced papers.
Since I do not do many prints on luster paper, I have only tried 2, and settled on Ilford Classic Pearl early on. The Kodak Premium Satin worked ok, but the Iflord produced superior results in terms of color accuracy and "depth". The fact that Ilford classic...
90% is photos......I currently have about 15,000 images (90 GB) on file...most of it not printed.....using Kirkland paper and bulk ink my cost per letter size print is about 0.24. So it really does not cost much more than 4 x 6 prints from a lab, and it is not much more than I used spend on 4x6...
I currently use a canon i950 with media street (formerly inkgetgoodies) inks and carts.....I print 200-300 8.5 x 11 borderless photos per month. My first printer for photos was a canon BJ600, mostly used for making brochures and enlargements from scanned prints. After 3 years I had worn that...
I think of media as coming in 3 types of surface finishes....
Glossy.....
Luster... (a surface that has semi-gloss pebble (or lightly frosted, if you will) finish)
Matte.....has no gloss and minimal reflective properties)
The luster finish is what most people "mistakenly" call matte, and was...
