Try cleaning your printhead. I would try cleaning it first in the printer. You've obviously got a lot of clogged or burned out nozzles. Each missing square in that printout is a clogged or burned out nozzle.
Hobbicolors is the most inexpensive quality option. Image Specialists (Precision Colors) is also an excellent option. The general opinion is that the Image Specialists colors more closely match the OEM ink without using a color profile.
If you are concerned with photo color fidelity...
Quick Update:
After having a cleaning cartridge installed for about three days, I reinstalled the cyan cartridge with ink. After a few hours the lighter nozzle "clog" began to show up again.
Next step? Try a cartridge from my MX860.
Those ink tanks look like they wouldn't be as suitable for pigment ink. I would be concerned with clogging and ink flow issues.
They are pre-filled with dye ink!
All of the older ones that are new are very expensive.
A better alternative would be to find a good used one.
There are many but the ip4300 and ip4500 are both good choices.
I agree with qwertydude. Any of the printers that accept the 60 and 60XL cartridges are good candidates for black & white printing. They aren't so favorable for photo printing but for an economical heavy use b&w printer they are pretty hard to beat.
I have a few of these printers where I...
Does anybody know the procedure to get the Canon Pro9000 to do the service printout?
I bought this printer secondhand and I would like to keep check on the waste ink absorber level.
I tried some other instructions and got the printer to go into a service mode (I think) but couldn't figure out...
Thanks for the responses qwertydude and ghwellsjr.
I installed a cleaning cartridge last night (Windex) ran a few cleaning cycles and now will let it sit for a day or two.
If that doesn't work I will try another OEM cartridge (I've got a few installed in other printers.)
The questionable...
My iP4700 printer has been driving me crazy this past week! I went to print something and the blue was obviously streaking/missing. Ok... I did a nozzle check. As many of you know, there are three shades of cyan/magenta on these printers. The darkest blue is all there, the next shade lighter...
I don't think that purging is always necessary, but it is a useful tool.
I use pharmacist's purging solution. Distilled water/isopropyl alcohol/a touch of propylene glycol.
There are two reasons to purge:
1. Solve inkflow problems.
2. Change ink types without waiting a few fills for the...
Or you can fill using the German method from the side. You don't need to use pointy needles, I use a blunt needle (the one included with the Hobbicolors refill kit) and it works fine in both CLI221 and CLI-8 cartridges.
