Joseph,
It seems like you've been having a lot of trouble with the top fill method. I am not a durschstich supremacist by any means :) but I think that you should give it a try. I've tried both ways and it is my preferred method. The big advantage to the top fill is that it is easier to...
Pkk, the Pro9000 is a sturdy machine for sure. It wouldn't hurt however to have a second one on hand (can be bought right now for around $200) for a backup in the case that your printer fails for whatever reason... then you won't be stuck without any way to get the job done. You also could use...
It is definitely worth it to get a profile for your paper but ESPECIALLY your ink. It will make a big difference if done properly.
As was stated earlier in the thread, mikling offers profiles for his inkset (Precision Colors/Image Specialists) for your printer. I would start there. The...
The button layout and color... that was virtually everything. Nothing to wrote home about. They are the same machine for all intents and purposes. If you need fax and or adf scanning and a Canon then its your machine.
MX870 is still currently available and uses the easily refillable (with a resetter) CLI-221 cartridges. They sell for around $120 and have fax/copy/scan. Single sided and duplex ADF. Decent machine, not the fastest but it has a load of functions. I have one that we have been using heavily to...
Blunt needles work fine but you do need a 2" length needle.
And I've never used OCP inks but from all reports they are a great choice especially if you want to buy in bulk.
I am not ghwellsjr but I can probably tell you what you're problem is.
You complain of highly unmatched (also banding) colors and a leaky cartridge. Those two things are related.
The cause? Most likely your fill plug is not completely sealed causing leakage.
You also could have over...
Not really. They share print heads with many other printers. They don't have the fastest print speed (not the highest nozzle count they use the mp620 print head) but the quality is the same.
The office all in ones usually have an ADF (automatic document feeder) for the scanner/fax. Many (like the mx860, mx870) also have duplex (two sided) scanning and copying.
I have printed thousands of borderless prints on my Pro9000 with no dirtying of the inside of the printer. These printers are designed to print borderless you will have no problems doing so.
Precision Colors has some extra large capacity cartridges available with Image Specialists Ink. The cartridges hold 2.5 ozs. of ink each!

I need to update my profile as well. I've got well over 15 printers now. Its an addiction. I have to stop checking the local classifieds and online sites ... there are "irresistible " deals almost weekly. Very dangerous! :-)
Ha ha I'm not going to buy any new printers for a while. I...
Windex when used as a cleaning agent doesn't seem to hurt the printheads. And the key that I believe many people overlook is to be patient... sometimes the really stubborn clogs can take DAYS to dissolve with repeated application. I learned this when unclogging my two COMOLETELY clogged...
Lol... I guess that after filling 50+ cartridges without a problem related to the filling method that it is flawed...
Oh well, I'll keep on doing it because it is FAST, CLEAN, and EFFECTIVE! :)
Did you ever use the priming (suction) tool on the color cartridges? It has dramatically increased my quality and success rate refilling the HP color cartridges.
