Follow Websnail's advice, and get an ip4500, an excellent all-purpose printer. And, as a bonus, it is faster and quieter than the newer models, as well as being less expensive to run.
Jflan is correct. The Truestar carts work best. They actually are genuine remanufactured Canon cartridges, but that might change shortly.
Whatever you do, do not use the PRINT-RITE brand of PGI-5s and cli-8s. The contacts on the printer do not line up with the incorrect chip placement on the...
All good advice....you might also have a problematic cartridge. You are under warranty with Canon and have a year of tech support.
One call to them and they either will fix your problem or send replacement parts. Give them a call, and your problem will be solved.
Also, if you have purchased...
I'm not familiar with your particular model, but I know that most BT Paperjets are made by lexmark, so I'm guessing this one is too.
There should be a small hole on the raised part of the top part of the cartridge. Enlarge the hole, and with a syringe, fill from there. If that is a tad...
Odd that no one here mentions the AIO MP 530. These are still plentiful at Canadian wholesalers and sell wholesale for $60.00 right now. This model also uses the same 5 pgi-5 and cli-8 carts and has an ADF. This is a real bargain these days.
Osage is right.....grab an extra printer NOW that uses the larger, refillable PGI-5s and CLI-8s. They won't be around much longer...
AND..there are some great deals out there right now....
jflan is entirely correct. Run out and buy a model that uses the larger, refillable PGI-5 and CLI-8 series of cartridges.
You will save hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars over the life of your printer.
These ip4500,mp610s and mp530s are on sale everywhere now..grab one or 2 while you...
Bottom line? For all-around performance, as well as cost of operation over time, Canon as been the best value. Hp, while making many fine printers over the years, has been making smaller and smaller cartridges, to the point that many of the cartridges are now ridiculously tiny. Grab a model which...
Nice to see that the price of these are starting to come down a bit.....
Now we'll see if they can make one with an adapter for canon's new 220-221 series of cartridges....
I must be really old-fashioned and naive. I can just see boards of directors everywhere - let's use Canon as an example- sitting around trying to find ways to increase profitability.
First, they come up with the plan to use chipped cartridges, solely to make refilling more difficult. Then they...
As I just write in a separate thread....
On eBay Canada, a reputable photo store is offerng 6-brand new canon i-960s at a great price. This is a superb photo printer with a 6-ink system which uses the BCI-6 series of cartridges, and is a great value.

Auction #s are 120315697059 130262354709 and 350098270649...and I have...
Now, that is a real bargain.....$69.00? Wish I lived near to you!!
Since the newest Canon printers have smaller cartridges, my guess is that the printers with the pgi-5 and cli-8 cartridges will do what the printers who used the BCI-3 and BCI-6 cartridges did..namely, increase in value as soon...

Found this link while browsing yesterday. While it is becoming outdated, if you will do some digging, there are many useful tidbits of information and links on this site. Those of you who are interested in Canon call errors, or who have problems enabling their cd...
Looks like Canon's is still playing cat-and-mouse with the new series of cartridges. ..probably changed the chip so that the redsetter and other resetters will not work with this new series.
It would be handy to know if by any small chance, if the new cli-221s and pgi-220s can be reset. If...
