I use plain old tap water here. Have for years now and see no problems. Maybe my water isn't that hard - it comes from a commercial supply. TDS meter reads ~300 ppm.
Edit: Doing research - my water is considered Hard.

Just a quick response:
The price being offered to forum members is less than $57. Just got mine today in the mail so I know the price. But would rather not post it so that there are no reprisals. E-mail Michele (mapsy) for forum member pricing.
There are three batteries in the design. It looks...
I totally agree with Avolanche - refilling is the way to go unless you are doing a great amount of printing. CD/DVD labels don't take that much ink per print. You can refill for about a buck or two per cartridge. Refilling via the German method or the top fill method using squeeze bottles (the...
Pharmacist:
Please point me to the post with your "magic solution" for wetting the pigment ink cartridges. I remember it when you first posted it, but can't find it right off. Did it have something to do with glycerin? I am finding that purged and completely dried BCI-3e cartridges aren't...
You may very well have a clog in the inlet screen or printhead. I am not sure that distilled water will clean it out. Any chance you can get Windex or an equivalent. Don't know your location - I second the comments made in another section of this forum about everyone putting their location in...
It sounds to me like the cartridge is not delivering ink to the head. I have had a few problems with refilling the pigment cartridge (BCI-3eBk) in my ip4000. First let me state that I don't use the German method to refill, but fill through a top hole in the spongeless chamber. The sponge doesn't...
Frankly,
I will try to give an answer to your question. I have Profile Prism and a Canon LiDE 60 scanner. When I was considering PP I e-mailed Mike Cheney (DDI Software) and asked about scanners. He replyed that the Canon LiDE series scanners were a good choice for a reasonably priced unit. I...
I gave the purging a go yesterday. The way I purge, first used with my BCI-6 cartridges, no water got onto the chips at all. The sponges are nice and clean, just waiting to get fully dry before filling. Bought a new set of Canon OEM cartridges at Costco so that I could test the printer - it had...
I am wondering what your thoughts are on protecting the chip on CLI-8 cartridges from getting wet when the cartridges are purged. Or does it really matter if the cartridges are left to dry thoroughly before using?
Background: Today I picked up a new, unused Canon ip4200 for $35 (on our local...
Heck yes - if I didn't refill I wouldn't be able to print out the 8 X 10.5 prints of all the covered bridges and lighthouses I have taken the past years. Photography is another interest.
Sure agree with that. Have been retired 15 years (took early out) and haven't been bored yet.

It is not hard to remove that plastic ball if you have the proper tools. I use a small drill (#55 to #60 or such) in a pin vise to drill a small diameter hole in the ball, thread in a small diameter screw and pull the ball out with a pair of pliers. As I said - if you have access to the proper...
I would go with any LiDE scanner with a 60 or above in it's number - LiDE-60, LiDE-70, LiDE-80 etc. Think they have some features/software that make them more versatile then the LiDE-25 or LiDE-30. I have the LiDE-60 and am happy with it.

Fred,
For a Canon LiDE scanner to make a copy of a page, it goes directly from the scanner to the printer. You open the CanoScan Toolbox, hit the COPY Icon which opens the Copy dialog page. The first time (or when you want to make a printer properties change) you set up the desired printer...
Kefp,
I have been having good (in my opinion) results using Profile Prism. I originally bought it back when I first started using Hobbicolor inks. Dave (Hobbicolors) first had an ink that I think was called BCI-6 that I tried. My prints had a definite greenish tinge to them - I also use Kirkland...
If you have a place for a separate scanner, that is definitely the way I would/do go. I have a Canon LiDE 60 Scanner and am very happy with it. I bought specifically for generating printer profiles using Profile Prism, but have always been using separate printers and scanners. My reason is that...
I use/have been using Hobbicolor UW-8 inks in BCI-6 cartridges for both my ip4000 and ip6000D printers for about 2 years - at least since Dave came out with it. He and I traded several e-mails when I started using his first inks - I had a green tint problem with them before I started making my...
Has anyone bought one of these Resetters from Inkfilling.com? I don't yet have a Canon printer that has chipped cartridges, but am wondering if I should get one at this price in case I ever do/need to. Our local MicroCenter was advertising some refurbed ip4300s at $50, but missed out on the...
I for one don't believe that the shipping costs for Hobbicolors inks are that high considering the weight of liquids. Even a postage cost of 25% of the order is relatively small considering the very reasonable costs of the ink. He packs the inks very well in my opinion. As far as ordering larger...
I second the suggestion of Hobbicolor inks. Have been using them for over two years now and have been very pleased. But I do generate printer profiles for the ink/paper combinations I use - I would do this for any inks used.
Again, a happy Hobbicolors customer. His shipping service is...
martop,
I have an ip6000D that I use exclusively for photo printing. I started getting the black smudge on the trailing left edge of each print coming out of the printer. Even occasionally I would get a smudge on the leading right edge of the print. This had just started recently. I pulled the...
