Only if you want to maintain the ink monitoring function of the printer. If you don't reset the chip, then you must regularly visually monitor the amount of ink in the cartridges so that they don't run dry and burn out the printhead. There are several sources for the resetter in Europe -...
Hobbicolors only sells one ink, their UW8 series, which can be used by all Canon printers. I have used it so far in my ip4000, ip6000D, ip4200 and ip4500. Hobbicolors also has a pigment black ink.
I only refill Canon cartridges - find that those are the best available. There are two methods of...
SpartanWarrior,
As far as inks go - I know that several members of this forum, who are in Europe, have been able to buy from Hobbicolors here in the US and have gotten very reasonable deliveries. I have been using Hobbicolor inks for a few years now and have been pleased. There should be other...
In my opinion the ip4500 is the better deal. The ink cartridges for the ip4500 hold more ink than those of the newer ip4600. Also there is a chip resetter for the ip4500 ink cartridges which will allow you to refill and reset, thereby not losing the ink monitoring function. I have two ip4500s...
The first time a printer is turned on or a new cartridge is installed the printer does a cleaning/purge cycle. That draws ink through the printhead with out firing the nozzles so there will be no damage to the printhead. At least that is what a Canon printer does.

Unless you are sure of your printer's capability to print the "test print" out accurately (think correct and tested printer profile) there is no way you can be sure that you are setting the monitor up correctly. Somewhere there has to be a standard and a print file isn't it. If you can't afford...
Jim,
A friend of mine, Stumpy Stone of WVa, builds those tiny layouts in various scales - mostly On30 now. Several of his are shown on Carl's site. Saw one of Stumpy's and two other micro layouts, one that was in a suitcase, at a narrow gauge meet in Ohio last April.
Guess the above has nothing...
What scale/gauge do you model in? As my forum name says I model in On30 - O Scale 30" narrow gauge trains on HO track. Also have an outdoor G gauge layout that I rebuilt this past summer. Raised it 2' to 3' above ground level. Couldn't work at ground level anymore - age is catching up to me...
I believe that the ip3000 only uses four cartridges (C,M,Y and pigment Black), whereas the ip4000 uses five cartridges (C,M,Y,Bk and pigment Black). The ip3000 uses the C,M and Y to form black for photos, where the ip4000 has a dye based black for photos. If you don't plan much photo printing...
I am not really sure what you mean by an "oversaturated sponge". I have been using the top refill method for years (Hobbicolor inks) and most times the sponge fills to the top with ink - just happens as I am filling with ink. After a partial fill of ink I cover the maze hole with tape and then...
Don't know what refill method you are using, but it sure sounds like you aren't sealing the hole through which you refill. In my case I remove the little plastic ball over the spongeless chamber and fill through that hole. When finished I reseal that hole with a #8 stainless steel screw and a...
For such a sudden drop in vividness and resolution it appears, IMHO, that some setting in the program you use to print or in the printer driver got changed by mistake. Are you noticing that the print is coming out faster - maybe paper type set as non photo paper. Did you accidentally set lower...
Peke,
My ip4000 Service Manual states that 7 Orange flashes means that there is no CD or DVD in the CD/DVD tray. That info is in Table 2-1 on page 1-4 of my copy of the manual. I just looked at the manual in the link given you and it is the same.
Steve W.
The only thing I can think of, if it isn't a problem in the printer, would be that one of the reflective areas on the CD tray is dirty or smudged. But I think you would have checked that already. And I think the CD tray reflectors would need to be very messed up not to work. I know that when I...
Actually don't think that is the reason you didn't get an answer. Just that nobody has taken the time to look or don't know exactly what you are asking. For the heck of it I looked into my ip4200 and it does seem to have that "spring" thingy.
Steve W.
If you are near a larger city keep your eyes open for deals on Craigslist. In the last month I have picked up (on the Philadelphia, PA list) both a brand new, unused, still sealed printhead ip4200 and ip4500. The ip4200 had been bought as a spare but never needed - he decided to part with it for...
Are you sure that you have the printer driver set for photo paper and not plain paper. If I try to print a photo with the plain paper setting, there is a definite banding effect in the print.
Steve W.
You may be having a problem similar to one I had with my ip6000D a while ago. I was getting banding in the print colors of photos. My problem was that I had accidentally set the print resolution in the printing program I use (Qimage) to a lower value than usual. When I reset it back to the 600...
