msmart,
See the post below that links to two other posts about sharing profiles:

Monitor variations have no effect on printer profiles. It is just that if you have an uncalibrated monitor your print out may not (probably won't)...
Here are my answers:
1a. Yes
1b. Yes
2. I use Profile Prism from ddisoftware. Uses a scanner and an IT8 target to make the profile. Works OK for me especially with Glossy papers. If you are only going to use one ink and one paper may be better to have a custom profile made.
3a. Yes but can...
qwertydude,
You must be one of those lefthanders who scrunches his hand into a ball and drags it over your previous writing. I am also a lefthander but hold my pencil/pen in the "normal" manner - no smearing for me. :) Those nuns wouldn't let me write like that.

Kepf,
Good to hear that you have had positive results with Profile Prism. The Canon scanning SW (CanonScan) is what I have been using and it seems to work OK even though DDI recommends Vuescan. I'm trying to justify the cost of the needed full blown Vuescan. Wish that the demo version could be...
But no matter what the cartridge ink levels were, how does the seller explain the 300+ pages that the EEPROM readout stated? Can't be the factory setting - my ip4500 which is only used for photos has a page readout of about 90 which I would say is about how many photos I have printed since I set...
Here is the way I purge - I remove the plastic ball over the spongeless compartment and forward purge through that hole with an adapter that connects to my faucet (used with RO systems), through some plastic aquarium tubing to a short piece of 5/32" OD metal tubing. The tubing force fits into...
I will put in another vote for only using Canon OEM cartridges for refilling. But I have limited experience with other brand cartridges - especially the chipped ones. Several years ago I used cartridges from Hobbicolors for my ip4000 and ip6000D. They worked OK but I think I got better results...
irha,
I think that maybe you misunderstood my reply somewhat - and I think I may have been somewhat wrong/cofusing in my gray/black comment.
The PG5BK cartridges I was talking about were also bought on E-Bay and were sent without the Orange outlet caps. Here is the way I purge - I remove the...
irha,
One thing I found out (as have others) is don't let the sponge in the pigment ink cartridge dry out completely before refilling. If the sponge becomes completely dry the pigment ink doesn't flow into the sponge area very well. Forum member Pharmacist has come up with a conditioning...
Yes you can take the cartridges out and examine how much ink is in them. Only thing that will happen is that the printer will run through a cleaning cycle when you next try to print. As Embguy stated - a brand new printer should show, and have, full cartridges. There is a way through the service...
msmart,
The sponge does not need to completely dry out after purging - just blow out the excess water. Actually with the PG5BK it is important not to let it dry out. Pigment ink doesn't seem to absorb into a completely dry sponge. I just started using Pharmacist's magic conditioning solution...
Kepf,
As I said earlier I haven't seen the bronzing you mention. But, on further review, are you sure that the inks that InkSupply.com sells are IS inks? Their site says MIS inks which appear to be their inks. A Google search on IS inks takes me to Image-Specialists.com where they talk about IS...
Kepf,
I assume by "bronzing" you mean a metallic tinge to black areas of a print. If so, no I haven't seen that as far as I can tell. I just printed out the C M Y K 4 color purge pattern with settings for Photo Paper Pro and the profile I made for the ip4500 and IS inks. The black bar looks...
My first observation - if you print with the canned profiles provided with Canon printers the prints using Hobbicolors inks seem more saturated (darker) than with Canon OEM inks. Prints with IS inks seem closer in saturation and tone to Canon inks. But since I use profiles generated for my...
I, also, have been using Hobbicolors inks with good results in my ip4500. But recently I switched to Image Specialists inks from Precision Colors - he is a forum member. I think I like the performance of the IS inks better than Hobbicolors. Precision Colors store will be closed until May 11th so...
Was at the Costco in King of Prussia, PA this afternoon and looked at the Kirkland glossy 8.5X11 paper stock. Almost all of it was Made in Mexico, but there were a few boxes of the Made in US still in stock. Grabbed one to have on hand - already had one extra full box. Until I hear some...
brady38/cwjones,
The original Kirkland paper was made in Switzerland and was thought to be Ilford paper and was packed in 125 sheet boxes. No idea who makes the newer Made in US paper for Costco which comes in 150 sheet boxes. I still have a full box of the Made in Switzerland paper - probably...
A little over a year ago it was reported that Kirkland paper was now listed as being Made in Mexico - the store here in eastern PA actually had it in stock at that time. A few months later the Made in US paper showed up again and is what has been carried here. Was in Costco on the past Thursday...
Anybody in the Philadelphia, PA area (Eastern PA/ NJ) looking for an ip4500? Just noticed that there is a brand new in the box ip4500 that showed up on Craigslist (Philadelphia) - actually listed on March 29th. Wants $75. Craigslist is where I picked up my ip4200 and two ip4500s last December...
