Does that mean that someone with a printer using PGI-220 carts cannot use PGI-520 carts in it?
On the question of encryption, I don't think Canon wanted to stop their chips being reset - only delay the development of a resetter. If they had wanted to they could have made them non-resettable. By...
It sounds like your needle is not long enough to reach well inside the tank. Mine butts up to the prism. As the ink goes into the tank so only air should flow back through the annular gap round the needle. If you have ink coming out of the port you must be injecting into the foam.
Yes, I see it now (my knowledge of German is nil).
It looks like there is a clear plastic panel on the side near the chip. Can the ink level be viewed from there?
Try Hobbicolors

Price inc postage to UK = 17.36
If you taped over the top fill hole it may not be a perfect seal once the cart is installed.
I suggest sealing with a glue gun or self tap screw with a rubber washer.
It is possible that Canon decided not to use the optical sensor once they had introduced the chip.
But they must have been always been aware of the possibility of government action against them for limiting the users' rights to refill - hence the prisms still moulded into the chipped carts.
I...
Your problem is probably caused as Headphonesman described. I bought empty carts on Ebay and every drop of usable ink in the sponge had been used. Consequently, when I refilled using the German method and turned the cart right way up, the ink level dropped by about 30% within a minute while the...
Then you could order from Hobbicolors. I found their prices to be lower than the UK supplier I was using including freight charges, and the ink was delivered within a few days by air freight.
Excellent ink too, as others will agree.
I seems it's the QY6-0055 and you can get it from here

Do you use the 'envelope' setting to print, rather than 'plain paper'? I had the same problem with smudges until I read somewhere that the 'envelope' setting lifted the printhead to allow for the extra thickness of an envelope.
I bought a new IP4000 head from here. Good service.

And I checked out these people for an MP600 printer (recently purchased), in case I might need one.

I used Think carts from Choice Stationary here in the UK, before filling myself with Hobbicolors.
I never had any problems with them.
As it's only a couple of months outside its sell-by date you should find it OK. But be prepared to change it at the first sign of a clog.
I take your point, but the cart I had problems with was after I had filled and reset it for the first time.
Writable RAM can usually be written to many tens of thousands of times, so I don't see why the chip can be at the end of its life.
