Whats up with my prints? Too much black?

Have you tried to change printer setup like media type? I seemed to have had such experience before and it was the setup change that solved the problem.

Ya' know, about those OEM carts.....

Excellent post, Osage. Another reason for refilling is to save the environment. The number of cartridges filling the landfill when add up is enormous. By refilling you almost never throw away any cartridges.

Canon pixma ip 5000 and pixma ip 4000???

Ip5000 has a nozzle count about twice of an ip4000. It makes ip5000 a faster printer. For a same photo the umber of firing for each nozzle will be less on ip5000 then on ip4000 so ip5000 will last longer. But ip4000 is not a dog. If you buy two of them you beat the deal of one ip5000, that's...

    Canon wide-format w7200/8200

I once was in a professional photogrphic supply store in Palo Alto California and saw a Canon wide format printer there. The printer was being installed and set up. I was very curious and asked a few questions to the guy who was apparently having a tough time to install the printer. He became...

    hobbicolors ink fading

Nikivan, how long have you had the Hobbicolors ink? I have bought two refill kits for my ip8500. The 2nd one was bought in July last year. The bottles have labels of BCI-6x on them. But my first refill kit does have the WC-6x labels. I believe I bought my 1st refill kit in late 2004. I think...

You are right, Hendo. I misunderstood the original thread. Thanks for the good subject with so much useful information. You have a great day (night?) too.

    Cartridge Drying? any recommendations?

Hendo, the ink in the cartridge already is of 80% water. The paper tissue did get a bit of water residue out. As I have done it and have no problem so I am talking about real experience here. I guess I don't have countless hours to spent and have no equipment to dry the sponge. I have no choice...

    Pixma 3000

I hope I am not causing you to lose $10. I really did not like my ip3000. I believe ip4000 is far better with one additional cartridge of black ink. If you are into photo printing it's really a good investment into one better printer.

    Cartridge Drying? any recommendations?

I believe Grandad explained well that there is really no need to dry them completely. I use paper tissue to suck as much moisture out from the exit hole as much as I could then fill ink right after. I don't have any problems. No change to colors either.

    hobbicolors ink fading

I have photos printed with HC ink a year ago. They have not faded yet. But mine are piled up in a stack of paper. Some are in protective plastic envelopes but most are just in the pile of paper. I do have a few laying around the house. Have not noticed any visible fading. I would believe some...

    Pixma 3000

Fano, have you tried using a Cyan OEM cartridge atfer all these happened? A BCI-6 Cyan OEM cartridge is about $10. It will serve you well in finding out if the printhead is causing the problem or not. If an OEM cart works absolutely fine than you have proven that Your printhead is out of the...

    Clogged Canon print head

You said: and there are ink stripes on the back of the sheet when it is out of the printer. This looks to me the ink is leaking. If you have replaced the printhead and it still does the samething then it has to be the cartridge that is leaking. Did you refill the cartridge yourself? If you did...

How large of a thread can the original refill hole support

Using stainless screw with an o-ring has an advantage that the screw will last much longer than a nylon screw. But a numer of refillings later the thread on the cartridge may be worn out by the metal screw. At least it may wear out faster. Only actual experience will tell if this is true. On the...

How large of a thread can the original refill hole support

Osage, If the screw is tightened the screw is compressed against the thread. If both the screw and the tank are metal there is a chance the screw will not perfectly match the thread then it may leak. But if the screw is of nylon materal and the tank is plastic the combination will be more likely...

    Clogged Canon print head

You know your yellow channel has several hundreds of nozzles. If all of them stops printing, suddenly in particular, it is probably related to electronics. the washing you did may not the the cure. It's likely the contacts on the PCB of the printhead lost connection. Once you massaged it by an...

Black ink bleeding into color tanks

If you have washed off the black waste ink from the pad it should be as good as a new one except it is free. Havn't you thought of reusing it? You may want to dry it as much as possible before you put your "new" pad back. Is it the big one (actually two or three layers) at the bottom? I think...

    Cleaning Cartridge

I never had any cleaning cartridges. Never used one for my 8500. I can't see a need to use one. Why do you think you need it? Just use the printer regularly. It cleans itself by using it. I can think of situations where you may need some user invoked cleanings. If your 8500 prints a few of the...

    Kodak Ultima Photo Paper

Hi Fish, the Kirkland paper is used by many people here. Same as you do. Very good paper. Thick and cheap. Kodak has 3 different glossy photopaper. The best and most expensive one is the Ultima paper. I bought a 20 sheet package to try once. It looked very glossy before printing anything on it...

Suggest a Method to refill tricolour HP carts

Just a thought here. It may be a good idea to use smaller diameter screw and thread to begin with. Since you are using metal screws the thread may wear out faster. If it ever happens then you move to the next size of a larger diameter screw and thread. I have not done it but this may make good...
