nice tool for drying carts after flushing....

Saw that.... really liked the holder he rigged (back-scratcher) :-). I tried that method and it seemed like it took a LONG time for the sponge to fully clear up. Some ink found its way into a few nooks and crannies and was stubborn in rinsing. I found a piece of plastic tubing that just barely...

I couldnt help but post the picture.

Hmmm, that means that $72 I just paid for a Mp990 with those 5 carts (plus an additional grey cart) breaks down like: $66 for ink $6 for the printer? :-)

nice tool for drying carts after flushing....

Well, you could always do a final step of zipping the cart in a ziplock bag with a small dessicant pack to soak up any remaining moisture http://www.amazon.com/Uline-Silica-Gel-Desiccants-Inches/dp/B0038N30OY/ref=pd_cp_hi_2

    MG8120 or MP990?

They are practically the same price from canon.... I had just ordered *another* MP990, but now I see the mg8120 has dropped like a rock as well in price. I was leaning towards the MP990 to avoid the BS of the new opaque carts, but is there any significant trade-off I'm giving away if I stick...

nice tool for drying carts after flushing....

Well I didn't consider it extreme since I already had the blower. Only took about 2 minutes. Perhaps I didn't have good contact between the sponge and my paper towel when I tried that method. However- unless the blown air is detrimental to the cartridge- I don't know that I'd bother with the...

nice tool for drying carts after flushing....

So I had followed several steps here to dry out a set of purged/flushed CI-8's. They had been sitting, drying, for about 3 days when it occurred to me to use the air blower/duster I have for gunsmithing work. Its filtered and has attachments to finely focus the air stream. Well, I figured...

    PGI-225 CLI-226 - replace or refill?

Well, even with a 225/226 resetter, you still have the problem of "seeing what your doing" with those carts. I dont think there is an advantage to using the new 220/221 carts (that are now opaque), if I understand the issue correctly, the advantage is using the OLD windowed 220/221 carts (with...

Request: photo of clear vs opaque 220/221 carts?

Thanks been using a Pro9000 for a long time and JUST started refilling it. And now ive been bitten by the bug! Picked up one of the supercheap Mp990's (seems like a steal!) for the rest of my household to use (wife, kids projects, etc). My PLAN is to leave the carts that come with it sealed and...

Request: photo of clear vs opaque 220/221 carts?

awesome- as usual- thanks for the lightening quick reply! one question: I'm seeing some conflicting posts- are both the color and pigment carts being replaced by opaque- or just the black? btw- I ordered a refurbed mp990 and its not here yet- thats why I dont have my OWN carts to take pics of :-)

Request: photo of clear vs opaque 220/221 carts?

I have a guy who has a bunch of 220/221 carts... I asked if they were opaque vs clear- and i could sense a lot of confusion on the question :-) Does anyone have, or can anyone take a quick snapshot of the two so I can send it? And if you do- Id be happy to share some if anyone else is shopping...

Best new printer with wifi and refillable cartridges?

I was looking at the 990 as an overflow printer for my kids to use for pictures/projects/etc. The only bummer is the grey ink. I just started refilling my pro9000 with hobbicolors ink and they dont carry grey! It really would have been nice to be able to "stock" one set of inks for both printers...

Anyone else buy a (cheap) spare Pro9000 "just in case"

Well, I guess my thought is why settle for "almost as good"? If the only downside of having 8 carts is the cost of 2 more colors of ink? The ability to refill my own carts seems to remove that "disadvantage" of the extra colors. So what if green and red are rarely used? I'm happy to let them...

Anyone else buy a (cheap) spare Pro9000 "just in case"

I LOVE my Pro9000 Mk2 printer. And now that Im refilling my own carts, my wallet loves it even more. However, I kept looking at these rebate/resale Pro9000's going for <$200.... Also, I see the possible canon future of harder-to-refill carts (opaque 226's) and wonder what the Pro9000 successor...

Oh no... first refill failed??? Help. (++photo added)

Stratman- interesting analysis- thank you! I think I had some papers stacked up in front of the printer and the test page got jostled a bit as it came out the shoot.... at any rate- I cleaned that out.... but I was gratifed that (albeit oddly shaped) ink was coming out the carts. So I took the...

OK.... sat all day and I tried another nozzle check: I dunno if this is more disturbing or less :-(

Oh no... first refill failed??? Help. (++photo added)

less than 60 seconds. Opped out old non-oem cart, popped in oem-refilled cart I HAD used non-oem carts. I was replacing them with OEM carts that I bought empty (from hobbicolors) and refilled myself. Yes- I did this and did it again to make sure. So is printing the nozzle check OK for the...

here's a pic of the PM. The PC is not as undersaturated as this one- but this looked wrong to me (not enough ink in sponge)??
