Hmmm. Are they pricey across the pond?
I think I got them locally (US) for about $1.5/cart..... granted this is a bit more than cli8 tanks- but still affordable.....
Is there ANY downside to swapping chips to windowed 220/221 carts? This seems like an infinitely easier cart to refill.... especially for the hoard of hard-core german refillers out there......
Im wondering why folks are struggling with ways to blindly refill these new windowless tanks?
Seems...
I cant imagine how many THOUSANDS of insertions it might take for a silicon plug to actually wear another surface.... Id say its impossible. I would think the more likely failure (if ever) is wear on the plug- not the hole. But even that will take so many repetitions.... seems unlikely.
A more...
Come on man.... I put "risky german method" in quotes AND even included a smiley after the first comment in case anyone was tone deaf to the sarcasm.... :-)
I will try
//sarcasm on
//sarcasm off
from now on.
Geez....the Drip-stich zealots are SOOOOO touchy. <------- SMILEY IMPLIED!
Wow.... that looks like a long list of things that can go wrong with the "Risky German Method" :-)
Since you are drilling a hole where no hole was ever meant to be in a cartridge (OEM or otherwise), Im wondering why folks WOULDNT cover/plug it? Kind of reminds me of the people I see riding...
ghwellsjr,
BTW- I did ask him to take a photo of himself with a t-shirt that read " Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire" - but he has not responsed as of yet.
I consider my part done....
To all those who still have the capacity to enjoy the day: Cheers!
Sent a quick email to Ross to ask him about filling while in the printer:
He responded back in about 10 minutes:
"you cannot and should not fill them while in the printer.
you should always remove them, recap them (orange bottom seal) and unplug the fill side port before filling. Maybe you...
I feel like I walked into the new German Inquisition... :-)
Thanks, but I'll happily reply WITHOUT your requirement that I make a mess in my printer.... I'm not trying to change anyones mind/religion/method/etc here, just trying to find a simple way to test the theory..... plus I like to play...
Well, since I dont have a religious attachment to one method vs another.... and I was bored, I thought Id experiment a bit.... it seemed a reasonable alternative to calling the guy a liar....
I took an old non-oem cart I had lying around (bought before learning the evils of non-oem carts).
I...
Like I said- I'm a OEM-cart-drilled, top-filler myself..... I dont have a horse in the race either way.
My only turn-off from his video is how much ink he had on his own hands..... that gave me cause for pause :-)
I initially looked at using his carts when I started refilling because I had...
Yeah- I watched. Listen, Im not endorsing it or anything, Im just saying he had another vid out there where he demonstrates (at least the beginnings) of ink filling the reservoir side from a hypo on the sponge side. Someone else has commented that he was lying or something- I dont think that was...
Well, I dont use this method, but if you check THIS vid, Ross shows that you CAN get ink running into the reservoir side from filling from the sponge side.

Well you might not need the multifunction (I didnt) but the refurbed MP990's at $77 was a steal..... heck- you never know when you migh need to make a copy of an invoice/check/drivers license/business card/etc when if the field so you MAY have a use once in a blue moon! :-)
As a plus- my 2...
My Pro9000 and MP990 both crank out borderless 4x6's in about 20 seconds... I dont think Ive seen any canons appreciably faster...
How many 4x6's do you print out at a time/session?
An Artisan + CISS might b a sexy combo if there is truly a busines need for 30 seconds --> 10 seconds.
I'm certainly not a refilling pro - but I *have* logged a lot of photoshop hours and have wrested with color management:
What you're describing sounds a lot more like a monitor color calibration issue than a printing issue. What kind of monitor are you using?
here's a link for a quick read on...
Ugh- sorry for all the questions- but what is the significance of the extra water/alcohol?
I've seen that mentioned as part of a cleaning/rinsing solution- but I thought it needed to be fully rinsed out before use.
(still learning!)
How are you determining the dampness/dryness? Weight?
BTW- tried this method again (took more care to ensure better towel-to-sponge-contact and it work marvelously! Now just trying to determine how dry it truly needs to be.
