I use HP LaserJet P1005 for like 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it. Haven't refiled the toner cartridges though, because the compatible cartridges are pretty cheap.

Or you can buy a compatible cartridge every now and then! I use to have a Samsung laser printer and I use to buy a compatible after the OEM runs out and an OEM after the compatible runs out.

Printing a page a day should keep your print head in good condition.

You might be able to get a second hand laser printer for that price - sometimes those can be found in very good condition!

Sometimes when there was a paper jam earlier, some little piece of paper can remain stuck in the printer.

Do the lines appear in other than fast printing mode?

For such an high volume of printing, I'd try to find a laser printer... much lower cost per page!

GIMP for Windows works just fine!

Not sure if all papers can last 200 years, ink - probably not. However some of those old manuscripts in the libraries, are much older than taht... so who knows?

Does your printer have the option to print grayscale - a printer option, not a photo software option?

Have you tried to reinstall the printer drivers?

Epson inkjet cartridges for Artisan 710 Soon there would be some low priced remanufactured cartridges, I believe...

I believe the printer came with a driver / software CD and manual? Can't you check your printer manual if it says anything about which printer driver to use for your OS?

Have you installed any new software - like new Win or WP?

I doubt if the "normal mode" was bad for the printer, the manufacturers would set all printers to "normal mode" by default.

Are always the lines on the same CD area? Have you tried diff CDs? It make sense the rollers could be gone bad. How long do you have that printer for?

Yep, it's possible a small piece of paper or any other stuff to be stuck inside the printer. Do you print normally when you put a whole piece of paper?
