I use HP LaserJet P1005 for like 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it. Haven't refiled the toner cartridges though, because the compatible cartridges are pretty cheap.
Or you can buy a compatible cartridge every now and then! I use to have a Samsung laser printer and I use to buy a compatible after the OEM runs out and an OEM after the compatible runs out.
Not sure if all papers can last 200 years, ink - probably not.
However some of those old manuscripts in the libraries, are much older than taht... so who knows?
I believe the printer came with a driver / software CD and manual? Can't you check your printer manual if it says anything about which printer driver to use for your OS?
Yep, it's possible a small piece of paper or any other stuff to be stuck inside the printer. Do you print normally when you put a whole piece of paper?
