If i were you, I'd rather not risk and buy myself a laser printer for that much printing.

A free alternative of Photoshop is GIMP - I use it all the time!

Can't you choose that option from the software your are printing from (Word, Photoshop - whatever you are printing)?

I'm sure if you look through the forum for half an hour - you'll get a good idea of what you'd like to buy ;)

Have you checked the HP and Epson papers out?

Yep, fine machines, but not so affordable :(
