Yes, just shop around. I pay $10.25 a bottle for Claria ( type) ink in the 240 mil size and that last me a long time. I'd avoid the "one type fits all" inks and stick to places that formulate the ink to come as close as possible to OEM inks.
Hmmm! I use dampers and never yet had one leak. As Toolman noted the other day, I love those flip top dampers. Anyway, I don't know what type your using, do they have flip top refill openings on top? I do appreciate that they are see through type which makes it easy to keep track of the ink...
Well there you go, the very reason I come in here. I'm not too old to learn and the learning process is always on going! I wouldn't want it any other way! Outoftheinkwell.
Drames wrote does it help that i always keep on standby, and never turn it off?
I turn my Artisan 725 off every night. When You don't the head does not set down on the ink pad and eventually this dries the ink into the head causing clogs. Of course frequent ( daily ) printing keeps the printer...
Just an afterthought!
If you have ever experienced the printer shut down notice, you have also seen the reasons they give to justify shutting your printer down. For example I remember reading that the printer was shut down to protect me from the ghastly possibility of getting ink tank overflow...
with my Epson 1400 I was told to always use the OEM cartridges that come with the printer at the start and then to do the switch over to the refillable cartridges. This has worked for me. On one occasion the 1400 shut down after giving me the (This printer has reached the end of it's useful life...
My dampers hold about 18 mils of ink and that is about 13 refills per 240 mil bottle of ink. 13 OEM Epson cartridges would cost about $208.00 while the refills from the bottle cost me $10.25. This is based on figuring OEM cartridges to cost $16.00 apiece which is a very good price for Epson...
Check the Epson clearance site for Artisan models. I have several 725 models and they have others as well with the features you want.
I paid $99.00 for each printer and since the 6 dye based Epson cartridges cost more than the printer I went ahead and used the cartridges from Epson that came...
Let me add that if clogging is a constant issue try just printing something( any test pattern for example) daily. No need to use good paper, just any cheap paper will do. The daily printing goes a very long way toward keeping the heads clog free. This has worked well for my Epson printers and I...
My Artisan 725 is very similar, in fact the same head and set up. I used the OEM carts that came with the printer just to allow Epson to initialize the system then I switched to dampers with flip top top openings and a read full chip set and never had to be concerned about how many pages of full...
Yes! We do use the damper/chip bar set up. The dampers are the type that have the flip top refill openings with positive O rings. You just pop them open and refill and pop them shut. Very easy to use and the dampers almost prime themselves the first time you install them. I ordered 6 extra...

Just so you know the red ink is great over ice cream! ( Disclaimer) "We'uns is just kidding, don't try this at home"!
I've run the tubing before and also now, the refillable dampers with the flip top. If it is a concern for you about cutting and chopping the printer go with the refillable dampers. You will refill more often but it is fast and simple and works well as long as you all refill before running dry...
I love the 1400, for me it just does an outstanding job. I stay with the Claria (type) inks and have always been pleased with the photographs I get.
Back a couple of years Epson was selling the 1400 refurbished by them for $149.00 so I bought two!
The first one is still printing away after...
I haven't seen fading in the over 12 years I have been using Claria,( Type) ink. I don't say that to defend anything because I don't have any reason to do that!
I like to make up bound books of photographs for friends and family and I have 10 or so of these at the moment that sit on a table near...
See through dampers are really easy to keep track of with a small flashlight. And the flip top type are very simple to fill and no inky fingers unless you get really careless. I have flip top dampers in two printers that take the same ink formula so I often refill them all at the same time.
Of...
Been there both ways. It all depends on how much printing you do and what your needs are.
If I print a lot, like 10 or more full color prints per day I'd go with the bottles/tubing/chip bar kits.
If I print only 2 or 3 per day, I like the damper/chip bar set up and the type with the flip top...
The Artisan 725 is available right now for $99.00 in either black of white. This printer works well with refillable damper cartridges with the chip bar that tells the printer the dampers are full and good to go. I've been using mine now for going on a year and enjoy excellent full color pictures...
Thanks for your detailed information on how the Epson's work and why. It's one of the reasons I like to come in here and I truly appreciate the input!
I am familiar with the waste ink bottles and have one on our Epson 1400. It took 15 minutes to install and I used velcro to attach it to the...
