Now that my Epson Artisan 837 is showing signs that it is about to go into failure mode I was rally caught in a quandary. What to do? Get a refurb 837? Get a printer out of the current generation of printers (seemingly never a good thing to do)? So I decided to snag an MG8220 before there were...
Is there such a thing as an inkjet that is not cloggy? I think that even in summer I am stuck with at least printing a nozzle check pattern every day just to make sure to run some ink through my 837 every day
I have watched with interest how users tend to accept each new generation of consumer grade printer. Of late each generation seems to be cheaper than the last but with associated reductions in quality.
If you look at the reviews of the Artisan series, the older printers in the series almost...
I know this post is going to sound so mundane to you power user. But I left the black ink cartridge in my printer when I got the first low ink indicator. I had a set of Epson cartridges just sitting there so I was not going to do I CISS or anything like that. However I am just staggered by the...
On the one hand I wish there were more Epson printers that were designed with something like a waste tank that was a bit more segregated than the simple pad designs on most of them. The system on the 3800 sounds like it is much more user friendly than mine. I have an Artisan 837 and it has the...
Wayne,
It is my understanding that you can see enough of the innards of the refillable carts to tell. Plus the chip on the side of the carts report the ink level to the printer. So the user immediately goes to the ink cart that is reporting low ink to the printer.
Wayne,
I am just curious so I hope I am not prying to ask...but is there any reason why you have decided against refilling carts and want to go for the CISS? I am just about to purchase myself and leaning toward refill carts so I am interested to know why your preference is for the CISS.
While I realize that epson like any other printer maker is trying to control cost to remain price competitive, I find the whole idea of dumping fairly large quantities of ink into nothing more than sponge pads and then calling the printer DOA when the pads are finally saturated pretty tough to...
If there is one bit of luck for me I think it is in the fact that the epson only uses dye based for all color positions. I think I would not do well with a system that forced me to think about the differences between pigment and dye based especially since they are really so different.
The...
That is a good tip fotofreak. It did not occur to me that the printer ran a cleaning cycle on all ink positions when even one reporting low is replaced. Sort of justifies the use of an external waste tank as well.
There is a youtube video that shows the ink from an artisan 800 series printer...
Had not thought about the added step of just catching all of them at the same time. I think I read somewhere that there is something about the way the epson chips report that would make that one tough to do unless you have the refill system from that one guy that actually has a chip with a...
I asked a similar question in the epson forum but then figured this is a better spot to ask. Has anybody purchased two carts per color keeping one cart filled in inventory and ready to go when the one that is in the printer starts reporting low? That way you just take out a cart that has already...
I just read a recommendation from one of the refill ink and cart suppliers. They commented that one thing worth considering was to have a back up cart for each color their waiting so that instead of refilling the exact cart that has just reported low ink to the printer, you just pull that one...
I want to thank the respondents for their help and their information.
If I am not mistaken, the waste ink tube on the artisan 837 is not that hard to get to. I am hoping that there is an exit path for the tube that will run to the waste tank when the time comes.
Hopefully this is not a...
Glad you decided to post in this thread Inkjet Master as I have an Artisan 837 and have a similar question regarding waste ink.
Since the thing has this damn counter that if I am not mistaken is going to error message at a certain point regardless of whether or not the pads are saturated with...
Usually I research before making purchasing decisions and generally make a choice that I am confident is at least not a bad decision. I have to admit, while I am working at it, I am going through a phase where I am pretty stumped. I do enough printing with an artisan 837 to make either a...
I have an Epson 837. I have looked at a number of posts and done a few searches here trying to gain an understanding for the dye based inks for this printer.
I know that Claria ink is the branded Epson ink so it is only available in Epson cartridges.
There are many threads that focus on CISS...
