Red "maintenance" light on continuously means either:
1. Cartridge Fault - Ink out in one or other cartridge.
2. Cartridge Fault - Ink cartridge not recognised.
3. Cartridge Fault - Bad electrical contact with cartridge chip (so printer incorrectly thinks #1 or #2).
4. Printer Fault - Major...
Yes, it is a problem. Ink coming out of the air vent implies the sponge is fully/over saturated. This is discussed in this recent topic ... http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5338
In that link, you are advised to squeeze the sponge chamber to eliminate 5-6 drops of ink. This will...
I always print borderless for my family photo album. It's a personal preference, and has no noticeable ill effects on my ip4300 printer.
No doubt that the waste ink pads are filling faster with borderless prints, but monitoring the waste ink level shows I've still got some 6 years life left...

The ip4680 uses PGI-820 and CLI-821 cartridges. You can't reset these cartridges with software - you need to buy a hardware resetter. I don't know where you can get them {Edit - for the 820/821} retail, but they do exist - see this link from the Chinese wholesalers ...
PS
The durchstich technique does not work well with "compatible" Canon cartridges because the sponge material in these carts is often denser than in genuine Canon carts. This makes needle penetration harder and more likely to damage the sponge around the outlet hole. Finding the hole between...
There are at least three methods of filling these cartridges ...
Method 1
The durchstich technique filling through the sponge into the ink chamber along the bottom edge. More detailed instructions elsewhere on this site.
This is my current favourite because it's quick(ish), doesn't leak and...
The MX860 uses PGI-220/520 and CLI-221/521 cartridges. You need a 2-inch needle to fill these carts using the Durchstich (German) refilling method - that's the length of the metal part, not the overall length of the needle. Any needle will do if you are filling from the top.
If the needle is...
@cityinkexpress (post #33)
You are confirming one of the points I made in post #12 - that bulk ink suppliers don't supply bulk pigment ink because of the danger of clogging CIS systems.
But (as you noted) the problem doesn't apply to refilled cartridges - and those of us who want to refill...
Your poor printing is obviously related to the poor nozzle check for your PGI Pigment Black Cartridge. But have you noticed the complete absence of any black from your CLI Dye Black Cartridge in the nozzle check? There should be another solid black band across the page where it says "BK".
Check...
This guy ... http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B001EVK4B4 ... (see post dated 25/Jan/2009) says C000 is a cartridge seating problem. Are you sure it is error code C0000 and not C000 ?
This site ... http://www.helpdesc.de/davinci/wbc.php?sid=30131a6049&tpl=ip4600.html ... says that 20...
@websnail
My theory (with no evidence to back it up), is
1. The volume of bulk ink sold to CISS users is much greater than that sold to individual cartridge refillers (is this true?).
2. Therefore there is more turnover (and profit?) in selling to the CISS market.
3. Pigment inks could be...
One reason why Wilko and myself are looking for UK suppliers (and we have both imported from Hobbicolors in the past) is that you can only import small quantities without incurring penalty charges. The exact amount one can import into the UK or EU without additional charges is not very clear...
1. You don't say if you have tried attaching the D68 to your Win7 x64 PC. Would be worth testing.
2. If it does work on Win7 x64 Pro, make sure it isn't because it is running in XP compatibility mode (not available on the Netbook).
3. Are you sure you installed Windows 7 32-bit drivers on the...
The problem with OctoInk, CityInkExpress and every other UK supplier I have looked at, is that they don't sell Pigment Black for Canon PGI-8 and PGI-520 cartridges. Every UK ink supplier expects you to fill PGI cartridges with dye ink.
It strikes me as perverse to buy a Canon printer with 5...
I think Peach are the manufacturers, and their resetters are being sold by
Peach - a Swiss company with a UK web site,
TintenMarkt and some other German sites, and
Ebay (for example), shipping from Germany.

The small bit of plastic near the contacts looks like an on-off switch. Is...
Instructions came with my Hobbicolors ink kit to pressure-balance a sponge overfilled during top-filling, but I don't see why the procedure shouldn't work equally well in all cases.
Rewritten from memory ...
1. Temporarily seal the sponge chamber air vent with vinyl (insulating) tape.
2...
Ideally you should buy a set of empty genuine used Canon cartridges with 220/221 chips attached. Unfortunately these are very rare and I can't point you to a seller, so your next alternative is buy a set of full cartridges complete with 220/221 chips.
After you have used up these new cartrdiges...
Unless there has been a very recent change of policy by Canon, the MX860 and all other Canon inkjet printers come with full standard cartridges. If you only get 15 pages from your original cartridges then you will only get 15 pages from your next set, and so on.
I think the salesman has...
On my ip4300 eeprom report (should be similar), the LF parameter is related to the CD printing function (on the same line as CDRP and CDRS). Maybe you don't have CD printing on your MP830, or have never used it.
D=005.0 means waste pad 5% full (as you said).
The repair policy of "try this and...
