I hate it when people compare the cost of one thing to another. People don't use that much ink so a GALLON is a lot. Gasoline is used in gallons and $4 is a lot when you need to get to work everyday.
PS: It should be illegal to block ink refilling altogether. Force the consumer to pay upfront...
The Canon's are all still refillable:
1. Canon cli-8 runs out, refill it.
2. Printer warns that you are about to void the warranty.
3. The ink measuring turns off so you will need to check the carts before printing or every so often.
4. Continue printing.
I recommend the Canon IP4300 for...
I thought I would update this thread with a solution to my problem of not using borderless printing and getting dvd covers to fit.
1. In PS CS2 choose print with preview.
2. Uncheck center image and set it at 1mm from the top.
3. Change the printer to use Legal size paper (you'll still be...
Swiftink gets pretty good reviews from people who are looking for prefilled carts: http://www.swiftink.com/index.asp?PageAction=PRODSEARCH&txtSearch=ip6000&btnSearch=GO&Page=1
Don't know much about InkTeK, I haven't used them before. It will probably be fine for one or two refills until you get the money to buy the ink you want or need. Just be sure to use the printer once a week so the ink doesn't even get a chance to clog any nozzles.
The 6000 is the old style...
What ink did you buy ?
Mixing differents inks will work but the results may not be that great. The generic black ink probably won't be as dark as the Canon ink. It shouldn't cause damage unless you bought really bad chinese made ink.
The big problem is making sure that the inks and carts work...
I wouldn't exactly call the 4200 slow and painful and the plain paper mode could probably be used on the 4200 as well since it has a photo black cart and would not use the text black even in plain paper mode. The 8500 however is the best Letter photo printer that Canon put out at that time now...
The problem might have also been a problem with the carts themselves and not just the ink. If the yellow ink was pooling into the printhead you get some really bad effects.
That said the newer UW8 ink is an improvement over the WC6 inks.
I'm going to guess that the carts you are using are the ones provided by Hobbicolors ?
Is it the WC6 ink or the newer UW8 ink ?
The problem seems to be an interaction between the ink and carts. Their is more to it then the carts being a standard piece of plastic that store ink. They are part...
The canon IP4300 is a good model and can be bought for $50 after rebates durning specials. It's about 17 inches wide and fits inside a hutch cabinet above a desk: 17.5"(W) x 6.3"(H) x 12.0"(D)
The tray prices on eBay have come down to less then $20 for a tray.
I think it has more to do with the fact that photo paper is stiffer and easier to print to the borders where as plain paper might get jammed up and make a mess inside the printer. Printing photos on plain paper is not really a good idea. The paper I'm using is 7 mil thick matte paper so it's a...
The setting is shaded when you choose borderless and Plain Paper. It becomes available again if you choose Photo Paper. That's the problem is that Canon assume you are actually going to be printing right to the edge of the paper. The DVD covers are 274mm long and 184mm wide so they fit on the...
I think I would rather save $300 and get the Pro9000 for $400 at $700 the HP B9180 had better be a great printer. I think I would wait for the Pro9500 and see what it has to offer and how much it will sell for.
I think I should explain that I was using the plain paper setting but with the borderless feature on since the DVD covers are 274mm and the paper is only 279mm.
It would seem that it automatically turns off the text black when you switch on borderless feature. Also using borderless and plain...
