Isn't the ip5000 just a four color printer (no PM or PC) with an added pigment black - same as my ip4000 but with smaller ink drops. There are lighter C and M strips in the printhead check, but these are just from a smaller set of nozzles for C and M. For the light C and M strips both to be...
Grandad35,
OK - I see what you mean about the filter. I wish I hadn't thrown away that BCI-3eBK cartridge that had that "filter" pulled away from the outlet hole lip. I have a whole bunch of empty Yellow Canon OEM cartridges that I got cheap from a fellow - had bought a bunch of others from him...
Definitely he will sell empty cartridges - at least he did about a year ago when I bought some. Actually when I bought my first UW-8 inks I got some cartridges. As stated, I now use only purged/flushed Canon BCI-6s - found a couple of sources of empties and now have plenty.

Actually the biggest build up of dried ink that I have seen has been at the outlet hole. A "back flush" would seem to me to push that ink back into the sponge. Also I have had a problem (at least with the larger BCI-3eBK cartridges) of the sponge moving back from the lip on the outlet hole. I...
Actually I think that the Hobbicolor UW-8 inks (the only ones I would recommend) don't come with empty cartridges - the UW-8 ink is meant for the newer chipped cartridge printers. But as I said I would only buy the UW-8 inks - they have a better gamut than his earlier inks. Hobbicolor will sell...
I totally agree with you there. Guess that is the main reason why the syringe is better - for the German method. That would be some mess if 2 oz of ink started pouring out of the bottle :o. I haven't had one of the Luer Locks fail yet, but I can see that it is a weak link in the system we use. I...
I still think that using squeeze bottles with a top fill hole is the easiest and cleanest way to fill cartridges. The German method hasn't grabbed my fancy yet. Maybe if I was using syringes that way is best, but I switched to squeeze bottles a while ago and find the top load method fast and...
I was a member of the CD/DVD Tray thread on Steve's Digicam forum that Grandad35 linked to - joined it on Dec 29, 2004. After the firmware change that allowed for CD/DVD printing on the ip4000/ip5000 printers, I was able to build at least two "B" type trays that eventually worked. I followed the...
Interesting comments - I see they have disappeared from E-Bay it seems. The one item I ordered from them, on their E-Bay site, over a year ago - printhead for ip4000 - came within a few days. I still get emails from the Inkcessories store with various offers, mostly for filled cartridges. They...
How many times have the two cartridges been refilled? Have you ever cleaned/purged them? Take the cartridges out individually and see if they are feeding ink - squeeze the sides of each cartridge over a pad of paper towels and see if you get ink to drop out of the outlet hole. Sounds like an ink...
I am assuming your comment is in response to my previous post. Unfortunately it does appear that "borderless" printing can only be done for a select set of paper sizes. I use QImage for printing and found that I couldn't fake it into printing a full page 8.5 X 11 borderless print with the...
Try a 5 X 7 print with a custom paper size of 5 X 9 or 5 X 10 and see if the banding is any different. Or select any paper size and change to a custom paper size that adds about 2 inches to the length.
prolonga,
Is the picture that you linked to in your first post a full page print? That is, is it a 8X10 or such print on a 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper? I had been having problems when printing a full page photo print on my ip6000D - the last portion of the print would have some noticeable banding in...
pharmacist,
I am also one who really likes the Hobbicolor UW-8 inks. But I do have some comments/questions about your tests and the results:
Were are of your prints done with the same ink/paper printer profile or do you have profiles for each ink? If you are using the same profile for each that...
turbguy,
I use a Canon Lide 60 with Profile Prism (PP) - seems to work OK for me. Think the Lide 60 has been replaced - Lide 70 or Lide 90. When I was first looking into Profile Prism I emailed Mike Chaney (PP maker) about scanners to use and he said the Canon Lides would work OK. Also, the...
I will second the use of QImage. Think you can still download and use a 30 trial offer before deciding to buy - that is what I did about two years ago. It is regularly updated - updates are free. Program checks for an update each time it is run.

King of Prussia, PA Costco store still had it when I was there last - about two weeks ago. I stay out of Costco stores around this time of year. I could get some for you after New Year's and send it - but I think the shipping would be rather high.
