Mediokrates: I'm sure there are others like me who admire your tenacity. I had a feeling that you were going to fix this printer, and you did! You mentioned that you took some pictures during the process. It would help others facing purge unit problems if you would share those images and your...
I found a post on "fixyourownprinter" that matches your symptoms.

15 orange flashes = ink tank not recognized 1410 to 1419
The symptom also matches that found in the PDF service manual on post #32 this thread.
Maybe a new magenta...
It sounds like the Gorilla Glue may have fixed the original purge unit problem and now you have a cartridge problem. Is the present problem (blinking magenta) preventing a cleaning or a nozzle check?
"Then the error 1410-1419 begins to flash."
Do you mean the error 1410-1419 is displayed on...
Experience obliges me to concur with redbrickman. Reset the cartridge when it's EMPTY and avoid the mess. Even if you have a perfect refill and there's no dripping, you'll find that resetting the cartridge requires a firm grip which in some cases will force ink from the outlet and all over...
Your problem is most likely caused by a faulty print head and can't be fixed without replacing it. I'm purposely blunt because I've been there two times (post #25) and your printouts demonstrate classic symptoms: Do a head cleaning and then print out a fairly clean color chart. Wait a while...
Mediokrates: Seeing that this ip5200 printer has not been used, I'm betting that the print head is probably OK. It's not likely that any nozzles are burned out because your activities have been modest.
Because you are now an expert at removing and working with the purge unit, may I suggest...
You don't mention any flashing lights indicating an electronic type of failure. There is a failure that the logic card can not detect and that is a failure of the purge unit to purge-suck-prime? ink from the print heads. I suggest that you make a simple test as described by InkJet Master...
"I mentioned a post or 2 ago, that my ink cartridges were lighting up. I realized that the top cover microswitch which I had taped down had come loose. Taping it back down, resulted in the cartridges turning off, and the carriage returning to a parked position over the purge unit."
You might...
Mediokrates: I'm part of a group that's following your informative posts and tenacious efforts. I have had good results repairing plastic parts with an epoxy cement found in most U.S hardware stores. (Ace Hardware) It comes in two tubes which must be mixed together in equal parts just prior to...

"I have a problem now. Sometimes, when I print, the paper comes stained with black ink in the low right end."
I had the same problem, more so with envelopes. I fixed the problem by cleaning the BOTTOM of the carriage box that contains the ink cartridges. My problem was...
A tip of the hat to you, PenguinLust. It's not easy flushing a cartride that clean without opening the factory refill hole. To do it through the hole drilled for the German method takes extra effort. The sponge appears to be as clean as one flushed through the factory refill hole. To dry it out...
PenguinLust: A flushed cartridge that's been setting on the shelf for a few months drying out should be Ok when the time comes to be refilled. The sponge might not aborb ink as fast as a slightly damp sponge does but after a few minutes the ink will permeate the sponge. A dry sponge will...

I had a streak of good luck a few weeks ago in coming upon two Canon i960 printers. Some person living about 4 miles from my home listed these printers on the local Craigslist as free to the first to come and pick them up. His listing said both had paper jamming problems...
Stumped2:
I had the same problem (contamination of the yellow) with a Canon i560. The i560 and ip3000 use the same print head. I was successful in taking apart the print head and putting it back together. It worked fine for a couple of months before the trouble returned. I replaced the print...
I've been feeling a bit lonely lately also. I'm not a heavy user. (of ink) For my own needs I use both methods. For others who come to me for refills I use the top method because I want to be sure I can easily flush their cartridges should trouble develop. I see advantages in both methods. If...

"Is it better to refill the cart as soon as it runs dry, cap it tight and store in a ziplock bag for the 6 months until I'll need it, OR should I leave it "empty", cap it, maybe seal the air vent hole and put it in a ziplock bag with a slightly damp paper towel until I'm...
