I've got cloggs on some colours too, without an understandable pattern, a strange beast indeed.
I am happy now and print a lot, IMO the machine likes this.
C and Y are from GI-56 bottles, M is still happy with octopus-office.de, and BK is from an expired PFI-701BK cart.
As said, trial and error.
This printer didn't print more than 100 pages !
With OEM ink (or good quality 3th party from Precisioncolors.com or Octoinkjet.co.uk) I think the printhead will recover.
Happy printing !
Your printhead doesn't look good :(
It seems ammonia attacks metals, I stopped using it since long.
Regarding the storage, I pour isopropanol (aka propylene glycol) over (a proven good and thoroughly rinsed) printhead as @The Hat does and store it in a zip bag.
The alcohol evaporates, but I...
Very interesting.
I wish I could make GY for Canon printers too by diluting BK with a clear ink base.
Actually I found a formula based mainly on G(reen) and B(lue).
Indeed, even in the endlessly quoted PRO-9500 maintenance manual power ON or OFF isn't discussed.
No idea if disconnecting from the mains interferes with the scheduling.
I did it when the counter was half full to test the service tool.
As said, you always can guide the purge tubes outside when an overflow should occur.
It is certainly worth to save this printer, most probably the last refillable, and I doubt the PRO-300 is better.
Very interesting indeed !
Seems the Canon bottled pigment ink is worse than the 3th party inks I always used in my photo printers, in particular the yellow.
You will have time to worry about leaks, and it is always possible to guide the waste ink tubes into an external "potty".
Take care in the first place to use the correct service tool to reset the counter (5204 as far as I know).
This proves again setting the timer with the appropriate service tool solves the battery error.
Good luck with the scanner !
Concerning my Maxify, refilling OEM carts with the Canon bottled ink for the ecotank version works very well.
The only issue still is contamination of the color with the...
A late reply:
I am a cheap guy too, but hoarded brand papers of reasonable quality (kind Ilford Smooth Pearl, HP Advanced Photo Paper, stuff most "experienced" photographers wouldn't touch ;)) together with Hahnemuhle and the like.
I also buy sometimes off-brand papers sold (in Europe) as...
I have no idea why the octopus.de inks started to cause problems, anyway it went away with other inks.
2500 C-M-Y Maxify carts are empty at 47g, no biblical multiplication of ink here.
I refill now again the official way when the chip shows empty (about every 2 months with my volume).
Not smart from both of us .
The Maxify ink is named BK.
But the octopus-office.de 'BK' ink had glossy patches on office paper, that's why I thought MBK would be better, since I don't print photos with the Maxify.
Wrong, genuine BK has smooth and even black surfaces on office and photo...
