By bottom fill method, I am assuming you mean the German method? It isn't necessary to seal the hole in this method because the ink will not leak out, as it does with the other methods. If it makes you feel more secure you may put a peace of tape over the filling hole.
I have used the True Star brand for the Remanufactured cartridges with reset chip, with excellent results. The best refill inks are " American Inkjet, OPC, Image Specialist, Lyson" there are a few more that other forum users may add to the list for you. As for Compatible cartridges, these I have...
Also, as for it being safe to use anything other than Original Canon ink? Yes it is, but you must be sure the ink is of the highest quality, there are some bad inks out there, and those will without a doubt ruin a print head.
ChiowD, there is a difference between remanufactured and compatible cartridges. The remanufactured cartridges for this printer are OEM Canon that have been refilled, and the chip on them has been reset to retain all OEM information (ie. ink level). The compatible cartridges, are made by another...
Just to clarify, Atlantic Inkjet does not actually have a resetter for these chips. They order the cartridges from another remanufacture. Altlantic Inkjet resells them only.
Island Inkjet started from a one man refilling business in Courtenay B.C. Originally called Frontier Products, the name was changed to better reflect what the business was about. It was taken over by Cary Porcher and has grown world wide from there. Their head office remains in Courtenay B.C. as...

I am also A long time client of Atlantic Inkjet, and they didn't inform me either. I receive feeds to press releases relating to the inkjet refilling, and remenufacturing industry, and that is how I found out.
Has anyone tried the cartridges yet? They are available now
I've been using them for a number of years, their ink is of high quality, and I am very pleased with them. I don't sell their compatibles, so I can't give an opinion on those.

I am afraid so yes. They can never be allowed to print without ink flow. The heat resistors are made to print at a certain temperature, they are also made to burn out at a certain temperature.
If the cartridge was allowed to print while empty as you described, the print head would have overheated, and burned out. The ink helps cool the heat resistors in the print head. You need another cartridge.
Try lubricating the carriage return shaft, first clean off the shaft with a lint free cloth to remove old grease. Use a sewing machine oil, or light lithium grease. Apply sparingly, and slide the carriage back and forth a few times, to be sure it moves smoothly.
Are you using all the same brand ink cartridges? If the cartridges are mixed (eg. OEM and compatible) this will sometimes cause the colors to be off. Also you can adjust your color output yourself in the printers setup options, slide the color adjustment to LESS magenta. Also if you are using...
Apparently there has been some instances of HP printers receiving print cartridge errors after downloading an HP printer update, which was sent to HP printer customers, by HP. The printers in question use the hp92 cartridges, and only seems to happen to the refilled or remanufactured cartridges...
According to the service manual......led blinking orange 5 times means: The print head is not installed, or it is not properly installed (EEPROM data of the print head is faulty).
Solution in service manual is: Install the print head properly, and close the access cover. Or, with the print...
Were the magenta cartridges always JetTec? or did you switch to JetTec after the new head replacement? Thinking it could be bad ink. Also some compatible cartridges of this kind, don't tightly seal properly in the carriage, so you don't get good flow through the head. And one more thing I...
