Sometimes a static zap can kill a chip, doesn't take much, and most times you never know you've zapped it, I take my shoes/slippers off before I touch these, seems to have cut down on the amount of dead chips I've had.

The firmware must of been updated when you installed the new drivers, if Epson updates are enabled this will happen alot as well. Turn off the auto updates for your printer (in Windows updates) and get high quality compatibles with version 6 chips or version 7 if they are out yet.

Are you saying the refills worked fine in this printer before? No errors? But now refills don't work, and you are having the same issue with "new" OEM cartridges in this printer as well?
Ok........it is probably the colour cartridge, this printer will not accept refilled or re-manufactured colour cartridges, the black refills/reman. work ok.
Is this your first refill for this printer? Could try holding the stop/reset button for 10-20 sec. if this doesn't work, then the above...
HP920 cartridges are similar, I refill these using German method until ink is just about to drip out the exit port, then suck some back into syringe, remove and let sit for 1/2 hour on news paper just to be sure everything is ok.....works ok for me, clients are happy : )
I'm wondering what settings Canon used for their estimate, usually these estimates are based on the most basic settings to use less ink. In the case of text estimates, they are usually draft settings. Maybe canon had the printers set on "good" quality, not "best". "Best" would use more ink for...
