I have been following discussion on this method for some time and (when i get a needle that`s long enough), I intend to try it.
hpnetserver, my understanding is that you do not need to seal this needle entry hole, it is similar to the labrynth hole at the top, and situated very close to a very...

I have been refilling this type of cart for almost a year now and have never had a clog. I would suspect the cause to be the ink you are using, can you try another source ? . I am not using "special" ink , any ink in the little refill kits, 30ml bottles, usually with a bottle of...
yes..... in the main 40/50 and 41 /41 refill thread.....

Yes the chip on the cart is told by the printer how many firings of that color`s nozzle has taken place and will give an on-screen message saying the cart is low or empty- regardless of a large amount of ink still left in the cart.
In a properly working printer (warnings of low ink not...
Mikling . I am assuming this also . My understanding is that the physical ink level is never monitored on these carts, only the set number of firings for the head being reached, and asking for replacement of the cart. (and loss of warranty if overridden )
If retention of warranty is of...
Still going Strong...41 and 51 carts in a MP150
Please note that I have been using the same carts since August 2006 . They have had countless re-fills. Where a color has "run out" (its happened about half a dozen times for each color) , the color has been re-filled immediately and the head has...
Yes if you replace with genuine off the shelf carts , ink monitoring is restored for that cart . all cart changes are recorded (and the status of those carts at that time ) are recorded in the printers memory (for ever ?), the log can be subsequently called up by a Canon Service person to...
Knightcrawler , I had exactly the same problem until recently with the MP 150. using Photo Paper pro setting at highest quality. (and cheepie refill inks)
I changed to plain paper setting at highest quality and the result was 90% better , quite acceptable. The color rendition may not be quite...
I believe many of your questions could be answered in this thread.

I favour the "top off" method you have greater control over what is going on.
We have the same sort of shop here in England, called Poundland. I have been running my MP150 and iP4000 on kits bought from here for the last 6 months. They vary from time to time in the composition of the kits, like 2x30ml bottles for 1, to a colour (contained in a nice "concertina"...

No I am sorry , I was not explicit enough.......the rubber you are referring to is a mat which the carts sit on.
The rubber gasket I am referring to is WITHIN the printhead assembly and can only be accessed by taking the head apart (2 screws hold it in place ?), a process not for the faint...
Grandad, Mikling, hpnetserver,
I would suspect failure of the rubber gasket within the print head allowing cross contamination. I would agree that cross contamination is taking place, its just where is the point.
I have tried to see where I would be wrong in thinking this, but I can`t. Please...
This sounds like the cart has not been officially declared "dead" yet by the printer. It doesnt know (or care) that you have topped up the cart. Soon it will say that the ink has run out , but if you want to finish printing , press the reset button, but you will then lose ink monitoring on that...
I am not surprised. I believe the reason these carts are not appearing on the recycling scene in numbers is that they new carts are not being purchased in any great numbers, if they are purchased, the owners are refilling the old and hanging on to them, for the obvious reason , any chip is...
thank you Jackson, I have re-read these posts and would now make the following unsupported comments:-
1. It is still my belief that one a cart has been told its empty, it stays told its empty , whichever machine it is subsequently presented to.
2. If a cart has been told it is low it...

I have 3 x4200`s mothballed against the day...
Very interesting, I had an occasion where i was swopping new for old and ,for a time , carts which should have been showing as "low " started showing "good". I continued to play and confirm but then it reverted back the correct low status. I was never able to replicate the occurrence. I was...
With "normal" usage the parking pads are not a problem until a substantial amount of time has passed- However if you are refilling and printing much more as result of being able to use all that lovely cheap ink it pays to keep the pads clear of "excess" ink build up.
On a regular basis I fold...
Thanks Kamikaze, but this was the first thing I (and others) ,tried when first getting the 4200 a few months back- no joy !
I never allowed the carts to even run low, i refilled at 50%. The carts appear to use the number of nozzle fires mainly to determine ink status regardless of how much...
