It is the 2nd time I find pot lids placed on a fence - this one is about 80km away from the first instance - it's probably a rather contagious virus ....??

I'm puzzled as well and scratching my head - I would exclude the assumption that these lids are used for communication purposes by aliens - but beyond that - I don't know ....
