Thanks for the replies. Now I have to worry that I've irreparably wrecked the printer, because it's been like this for months. I've owned printers since the mid 90s and, while I've never been more than a casual user, this is really the first I have ever heard of this.

You have got to be kidding. It's made to blithely use up the inks whether I want them to or not, inks I haven't actually used for anything?

I haven't used my printer in months, except for text, and now all the colors except black have, apparently, dried up. How can I un-dry them?
