It looks like my Canon MG6120 is just about done so I'm looking for another. But I'm also a Linux user so I'm looking for suggestions about what's:
Refill-friendly
Linux-friendly: in the old days this was HP but there have been a lot of days since then
Do I ask for too much?
My needs haven't...
The thing about alcohol is it absorbs water. Not only that but rubbing alcohol that's 100% is unheard of. I don't even think we have 90%. Is 70% enough?
Today I was surprised to find out that when I replaced the yellow cartridge, the LED stayed dark. Poking around, pulling it out, putting in back, etc. fixed the problem, but then the cyan went flaky too. Eventually I got them all working, but I'm wondering if this is just going to get worse and...
Well, I guess I'll never know.
In the end, I decided to go ahead w/the photo printing and see how it goes. The banding was eliminated (yay!) but the pizza roller effect is now visible to the naked eye :( But you have to be looking really hard to notice, so I think I'm just going to quit while...
The service tool demanded a media type, so I just went w/whatever the default is. What I found is that LF=4 and EJ=4 were the winners. The service tools has 0s in their combo boxes, so I assumed that was the default. When I changed them to 4 and pushed "Set" I found that they returned to 0s once...
Ok I've gone through the instructions, and I just have a couple of questions: do I have to use A4 paper? Will US letter not be enough? Also, the automatic alignment asked that I use matte paper, but it doesn't seem to care for manual. Or is that what "media type" is? I don't know what "HR-101...
Ok, that part looks pretty complete. I'm going to need to be sure my ducks are in a row before I start this, because I have 2 bored cats who're going to think the pieces are cat toys I've put there just for them, so I won't be able to leave it half done.
Having said that, how about this sensor...
I've already done an alignment.
Ok, so I have 2 recommendations:
Cleaning the timing band: is that the "Paper feed motor adjustment" that you find in the service notes at the end of the manual?
I've also been told to clean some sensors but I don't see where in the manual it shows you how to get...
I see. Sounds like the sort of thing that voids your warranty. Not that there is one anymore, but there's a good reason why they can be voided prematurely. Is there a documented procedure for this?
I haven't been able to find anything that enabled/disables bidirectional printing, but I believe the "print quality" affects that. I did 2 of them in "high" and 2 in "fast". I didn't do any in "standard". You can see, the slower "high" quality print tends to reduce the banding, but I did my...
So where does that leave us? Scanning from Linux, I have the ability to play w/the darkness and contrast. Does this help? Are there some objective sources of colour that I could scan alongside the nozzle check that would be a reference? Like how about another scan w/these paint samples that were...
Oh. In that case I'm a little confused. I thought that the point of that was to do a nozzle check, not run the scanner. In any case, Canon isn't offering Scangear for my printer. They just offer this MP Navigator. I tried downloading Scangear from...
If it'll help, I tried taking pictures w/my phone's camera: it's a Moto G Power, only a couple of months out of the box. Unfortunately, it's still a bit faded (maybe the lighting in the room), but much improved. Ironically, the pizza roller can still be made out w/the phone. Trust me: you can't...
You can ignore the pizza roller. It's not on the photo print. Not sure how it got there, but like I said, the scanner sucks too. The horizontal banding is what I'm hoping to get under control.
The 2 images do have different brightness/contrast/saturation and everything. The scanner makes it even...
