Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

Just an update, I have been printing a little over the past week, and as The Hat predicted, the print head is settling down and the nozzle check has improved. All the bands are intact except for a faint, thin photo magenta line (although the original magenta defect resolved long ago). I have...

Much obliged to both of you for the information, thank you!

Oh, I didn't realize that that Websnail was of Octoinkjet. Now your previous comment inviting Websnail to give props to the others makes more sense to me. I never even got to use the cartridge flushing clips. I realized that I had clips that were meant for different cartridges. It's possible...

Thank you very much. I am thinking that Pharmacist's Solution is a solution concocted by someone named Pharmacist on the forum, with the pertinent ingredients listed afterwards, rather than Pharmacist's Solution being a particular ingredient in the final mixture, right? Still finding my way...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

Thank you again for your help. Do you just flush with Windex with Ammonia until the cartridge looks clear, and then flush with water? Or is there a more precise methodology?

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

Really? I can print real stuff other than nozzle checks now? I thought that the presence of consistent defects in the cyan throughout all of this meant that my printer head was permanently damaged and it was time to throw in the towel. But I'm not arguing. If you think I can print regularly...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

Hello, I'm sorry it took me so long to go through the next steps. I did soak the print head again, this time just in dish detergent solution and then rinsed with distilled water letting it dry for at least 24 hours. Then I changed to my back up cartridges while I flushed the original cartridges...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

I just let the print head sit in about 1/4 inch of fluid. I periodically filled the ink inlet area with fluid that I siphoned from a straw, but the ink inlets were not consistently submerged.

Thank you for the links. I will review them carefully before proceeding. The products I have are the cartridge flush clips. I am sorry I was imprecise with my language before, making the information hard to find. The picture and video on how to use them is on this page...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

We do have a water softener, but I am still a little mistrustful about our water quality because I don't know how often my husband refills it and sometimes my family complains about the water when they visit. So I will try with the distilled water. The ammonia solution was suggested by prior...

That sounds reasonable. I will need to go out tomorrow and buy some distilled water to flush them. I will let you know how it goes afterward! Thank you!

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

I let the print head dry for 23 hours in an 80 degree room with good circulation before I re-inserted it. It should have been completely dry. I let the printer rest overnight (nozzle check 5), then removed the four offending cartridges and blew through the vent holes (nozzle check 6), then did...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

Oh really? That surprised me because they are the same cartridges that I had been using before the print head soaking and they had been giving good results on the nozzle checks previously. I put them back in the storage clips to keep them from drying out. But I will see if I can get the...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

I went ahead with the soak in dish detergent as you suggested, as well as an 8-hour soak in a 1:3 ammonia:water solution. After rinsing and drying, I did a nozzle check. The magenta returned, and I didn't see the defect, but there were other absent colors. So I did two regular cleaning cycles...

Can print head recover from letting magenta run completely dry?

Thank you for your continued guidance. On normal printing, I typically see the thin band defect on photographs, and with high quality printing, I only see it in the vivid reds and oranges, although it's more of a subtle banding than the white streaks. I can live with the printer in its...
