Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

@nertog I can see how the ccStudio plot doesn’t make sense for showing the displayable gamut of my printer/paper combination. Obviously it can not print absolute black. Yet I get darker blacks using the ccStudio profile. I create profiles not to find out about the paper gamut but to get nice...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

@nertog The colprof documentation shows: -s src.icm|cperc Apply gamut mapping to output profile perceptual B2A table for given source, or compression percentage -S src.icm|experc Apply gamut mapping to output profile perceptual and saturation B2A table, or expansion...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

@pharmacist @nertog @Ink stained Fingers Thank you for your latest comments on this topic. In the meantime I reread the 480 patch target sheet on all papers. This time actually counting seconds for each strip. Turns out I indeed was too sloppy, at least with some of the rows. Thank you for the...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

@pharmacist Thank you for your reply. I was afraid of exactly this. I already assumed that because of the small patches I need to be very precise and slow in reading the target sheet. That’s why I took my time and scanned at about 6 to 8 seconds per row. The very same speed I used for the...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

If I understand this correct, this would make ArgyllCMS unusable for photographers that are interested in actually having darker black tones in the printout. I only know of four rendering intents (Perceptual, Relative Colorimetric, Absolute Colorimetric and Saturation). I read that for...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

@Ink stained Fingers Thank you for all your replies. I have read them all. Sorry for not getting back to the subject though. This week was a nightmare. I had a medical emergency with a short stay at the hospital. Recovering slowly. That’s why I heavy-heartedly have to postpone taking care for...

I actually used both and all. With perceptual rendering intent it is a bit better, still not as good as with the 50+50-patch profile by ccStudio. Sure! I attached a zip file with both the ti3 and the icc file.

@Ink stained Fingers @pharmacist OT: You guys seem to be able to see and answer to my posts even though they are held back for moderator approval. Does that mean you are moderators and keep forgetting to approve my messages? :-)

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

@Ink stained Fingers @pharmacist Thank you both for your info. I now created a profile using the provided 480-patch target sheet and “colprof -v -qh -i D50 -o 1931_2 -S AdobeRGB1998.icc -cmt -dpp -D"X" -CY 480target” as suggested in...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

Thank you for the detailed insight. To clarify: the coloured borders separating the patches in the target sheet are generated by default. Anders Torger’s tutorial also creates these borders. It would surprise me if Anders’ Colormunki would not have problems with the separator but mine does...

    👋

Alongside my post in the “Everything Else” forum I read “Awaiting approval before being displayed publicly”. And with my messages in threads I see “This message is awaiting moderator approval, and is invisible to normal visitors”. Is there any admin who wouldn’t mind to approve my post/message? :)

Thank you so much for your reply. I added the used target sheet as PDF to my original post. It would surprise me if ArgyllCMS would leave out essential patches. Especially using the parameters from the mentioned tutorials. Yes, Andreas Torger’s article seems to leave nothing open. They seem...

Colormunki/ArgyllCMS profile lacking dark tones (compared to ccStudio)

Hi! A few months ago I started getting into home photo printing. I found my photo prints to have colors that did not really match the ones on my calibrated screen. Mostly I realized a magenta tint, especially on people’s faces. After reading a lot on websites and in Internet forums like this...

    👋

Hi! I am currently getting into printing my photos myself. During research the past months I stumbled upon these forums quite often. So I figured I should register for an account and actively be part of the knowledge exchange. Happy to be here!
