Pixma iP5200, brand new print head seems to have blocked up already?!?

Yes- to summarise the eventual solution, as recommended by GHWELLSJR,.. I used a 5% solution of ammonia in water, which in the UK came by diluting 1:1 an ammonia based household cleaner called MaxAmmonia (available fromn hardware stores for about 2) I repeatedly dosed the pads that sit above...

Pixma iP5200, brand new print head seems to have blocked up already?!?

Hi GHWELLSJR The UK car window cleaning agents are definitely not ammonia based, but detergent (I think). Your advice is that I should be patient and allow more time for soaking the purge system to work.. so I propose to try leave ammonia sitting on the purge pads, just keeping it topped up...

Pixma iP5200, brand new print head seems to have blocked up already?!?

I have followed the advice on the link you posted and produced an output, shown below. It does not look like the extended nozzle check, but I'm not quite sure what it is I'm looking at or what it means. I am a little confused as to where you think the problem may lie: Your first post responding...

Pixma iP5200, brand new print head seems to have blocked up already?!?

I have followed your suggestion- many thanks for the help and advice. I have run the 5% ammonia/clean cycle about 12 times, (using clean as opposed to deep clean), but other than empty a complete set of nearly full and full cartridges (apart from the yellow, of course) there is only a very...

Pixma iP5200, brand new print head seems to have blocked up already?!?

Thank you- this is a new line of approach that I have not come across. I think I can access the purge pads by 1) opening the top cover to bring the print head to the centre, then 2) switicn g off power and sliding the head to the left. The pads then are under the casing to the RHS, as in the...

Pixma iP5200, brand new print head seems to have blocked up already?!?

Hi all, I wonder of anyone out there has had similar issues or can help me figure out whats happening here. I have a Pixma iP5200, several years old, on which I use OEM inks and cheapo gloss photo paper, and have always had perfectly acceptable results on the rare occasions I printed photos. A...

iP5200- absolutely no yellow despite cleaning- time for a replacement?

Thanks for the suggestions! To reply to Trigger37, I have cleaned the contacts on the back of the head and inside the carriage, but no change. I did not completely understand your question about whether the printer acknowledges the Yellow as valid: What I can say is that each time I reseat the...

iP5200- absolutely no yellow despite cleaning- time for a replacement?

Hi all, First time poster here, and any help would be much appreciated! I have a little used 4 year Pixma iP5200. Never paid too much attention to it, and been using generic replacement ink cartridges, by switching the chip every time I changed inks. All worked fine until one day recently, I...
