Can you post the actual scans without any tweaking? In general, you will get different results when you change the media setting because the printer driver adjusts the ink dispersion rate accordingly.

The OEM hole has to be enlarged to use mikling's plugs. The plugs sold by octoink are the ones that match the OEM hole.

Regardless of the setting custom icc profiles are only tried and truly tested means to get good results.
