Quoting mikling: "So far Canon has not gone after this level of dirty play and thus in the 17" arena, the Pro-1000 is still an active player for refillers. For refillers, the tide should shift towards Canon who has been a lot looser with refilling ...a LOT of room was left."
I'm not here often...
No idea if this will be of any help or not, I had a similar problem 15 years ago, with a specialty paper. Here's my story & some interesting (to me) current results
I'm using one of the newer (to me)Canons with the 250/251 inset.
I have some highly glossy paper, no idea what brand, it is very...
It wouldn't take a lot of effort to make a little jig that you could rewind the 3 inch core paper onto your 2 inch core. I built something similar but different with a counter in the path for reloading printer ribbon, I powered it with my old Makita 7 volt drill.

I needed to be able to purge crap ink from a...
I used to have a refill business (not starting with the letter "I")
I still have my cartridge spinner.
Find yourself a small piece of 1/2 inch wide (very thin) flat-bar.
drill a hole dead center and attach a very long bolt.
When you're sure you're close to balanced when it spins, bend 1/4 to...
