The carriage moves freely, I don't see anything obvious wrong. At this point it's not important that I will be able to put it together again, should I try to remove the whole carriage and clean it on the backside?

Extremely annoying to have to throw out a printer for this kind of error. The error code is so generic, could be a hardware problem too.

I'm not sure I understand. The scanner has worked before, I don't recall removing any screws.

I've disassembled it as much as I dared, cleaned the encoder strip, reseated some ribbon cables. No change, it could be the scanner. The scanner only moves ever so slightly, about a centimeter, the error appears when it has gone back. I don't see anything that's broken.

MP610, one printhead replacement after five years, the small black isn't perfect on the nozzle check, but it doesn't show on prints. Decided to leave it alone, tried various things several years ago. Have been using unoriginal cartridges.

The dots are almost completely gone now. I guess the smudge I get in one corner every time I print is a result of a lot of residue ink on the printhead. I haven't dared to take it out and clean it.

Studied some prints I did today and saw some small dots in areas that didn't contain any text or photos. So I guess it will resolve on it's own.

☺️, Yes it is. It's been with me for quite some time, have been very happy with it. I'll just keep printing as usual, if they don't go away soon I'll try and change to new cartridges.

Thank you for your reply. I never did manage to get the scanning function to work over LAN. I could do a scanning, if it's absolutely necessary. The dots are there on the check pattern, but couldn't see anything on the printed photo. Have printed quite a few tests and they vary in intensity...
