I should have added that I tried extensive cleaning of the print-head using distilled water, then Windex, then ink solvent. Then at least 6 deep cleaning cycles. Color won't print at all.

Thanks guys, right you were! All ok with my 4000, now I've still got a bum 5000. Color won't print, (after much head cleaning) black prints wavy lines which fade in and out. Any ideas? New printhead? or is it electrical?
Thanks,
Reg
I cleaned the printhead, replaced it, filled carts, and went into service mode for deep cleaning. From service mode it test printed ok.
When I try to print from the computer, I get an error message "Document failed to print"
I think I'm close. Any thoughts?

I need two replacement printers for my IP5000 and my IP4000. Both have clogged printheads which I have not been able to clear. Also the 5000 appears to have something worse happening with print transport so it is definitely in the toilet. The 4000 won't recognize the printer after head cleaning...
My 1p 5000 which is about 5 years old stopped printing all colors during a DVD print. I tried all suggested methods, washed the printhead, soaked 2 nights in distilled water, then head cleaner, did the cleaning, deep cleaning and nozzle check. No color, and a poor black grid, many nozzles...
We print a lot of DVD's so our IP5000 (modified to printCD/DVD) and IP 4300 are sometimes both in use and I felt we should have a backup.
At a charity shop I spotted a used 4000 which looked in pretty good condition (minus the cassette tray which I don't need). It turned it on OK at the shop...
Ip 4300. Refilled tanks, but it doesnt look like cross-contamination. I suspect this is a color management problem, but I don't know where to start. All the articles seem endlessly complicated. Suggestions??
