cleaning PG-210 cartridge -- it works!

Actually, the thread you pointed me to pretty much answers my questions. Thanks again.

cleaning PG-210 cartridge -- it works!

That's very interesting. What accounts for the "useful capacity" being lower than the nominal capacity? Perhaps 3 cc is just the amount of ink that's necessary to saturate the sponge? If that's the case, maybe by the time you don't get anymore ink coming out, you'll be left with a wet sponge...

cleaning PG-210 cartridge -- it works!

Here's a related question for someone who understands how the sponge in these things works. I've NEVER managed to get more than ~5 cc into a PG-210, though it's supposed to hold 10 cc (and I guess the XL is supposed to hold 15 cc). Is that because it takes the sponge some time to soak up the ink...

suggestions for inexpensive home office laser printer?

Well, I do a lot of ink cartridge refilling, and I know someone who does toner refilling (with a toner cartridge), and I have to say that the latter seems easier than the former. But yes, I was thinking about a Brother, for which the toner cartridge refilling appears to be just matter of popping...

suggestions for inexpensive home office laser printer?

I'm looking for a (B&W) home office laser printer for an elderly person, who is an active writer. He uses an inkjet printer right now, but the cost of cartridges is a handicap, and he's not easily able to do resetting, liquid ink refilling, and cartridge cleaning. Ideally this laser printer...

cleaning PG-210 cartridge -- it works!

Very interesting. Thank you. Good idea about sponge reuse. But it does sound as if you're not just prying off the top of the cartridge, but actually breaking it open. Yes, I just put a piece of tape over the fill hole, but I wasn't aware of the air channels. I just assumed that the taped-over...

cleaning PG-210 cartridge -- it works!

I should add, and underscore your remarks above, that in order to keep these cartridges working well, DO NOT wait to let them run out. I fill them every three weeks, and I keep track of how much ink I squirt in. It should always be less than their capacity. Interesting about removing the top...

cleaning PG-210 cartridge -- it works!

I've had an MP-280 printer for the last two years, and have gone through 10-20 reams of paper with it with ONE PG-210 cartridge. (I only use black.) I just refill the cartridge every three weeks or so. Very sweet. But finally, the cartridge started misbehaving, and I was about to trash it, but...

    which printers use unchipped cartridges?

I was actually looking for a list of NEW printers that use unchipped cartridges. But I gather there are none? Hmm. Most guys have moved on to using chipped cartridges that work extremely well? I have to assume that's because they reset the chips, because you can be sure that if they can't...

    which printers use unchipped cartridges?

Excuse me if this is well discussed, but at least a link would be handy. I do just B&W printing (mostly text), and have been refilling my own cartridges for many years. I figure I pay about 40 cents per refill, and routinely use cartridges for several years, and dozens of reams of paper from...

    Durafirm

Um, no. I don't work for any company having anything to do with printers or inks, nor do I have investments in any such companies. I print research documents at a university. But I respect your comment. I don't like it when people use forums to advertise ... if that's what your very long...

    Durafirm

Thanks. I'm not sure what "technically" means, though. Is there a technical reason why dye based ink shouldn't work in a PG-5BK cartridge? I'm not even aware of a bulk ink reseller that sells pigment-based black anymore. There is no question that the cartridge manufacturers want you to pay...

    Durafirm

I've been refilling my inkjet printers for many years now (I'm using a Canon iP4300). I use it only for printing text on office paper, so my refills are all aimed exclusively at the large black tank, which is conventionally a PG-5BK. Of course, most inexpensive black refill ink is now Durafirm...
