Hi, my PRO-1 is acting up, particularly the PC and Y nozzles, nozzle check attached. I'm thinking the Printhead might need replacing but thought I'd run by here before replacing it. Any and all support welcome. Have cleaned and deep cleaned a few times with no improvement. I was going to remove the printhead and try the hot water method but am unsure how to remove the printhead.

Welcome to the forum, Liam. As our fearless Moderator @The Hat says, sorry to rip the band aide off fast but your print head and/or the logic assay board has an irreparable electrical malfunction. The visual sign is the straight line missing one-half of the PC swath. Doubtful this is a clog. Nature doesn't do straight lines for the most part. Clogs typically do not obstruct one-half of the nozzles only as in the PC pattern shown.

I am having some difficulty being sure about your Y swath, though it appears that the lower one-half is a slightly lighter intensity color. In the end, it doesn't matter as the PC function is irreparably damaged and a new print head should correct it. Whatever is going on with the Y should be resolved with a new print head as well.

A caveat said on the forum is that an electrical malfunction in the print head can propagate to the logic assay board and vice versa. Their have been very rare reports of a bad logic assay board propagating an electrical malfunction to a new print head. Cannot recall when this happened to anyone on the forum, but it has been reported on the internet.

Bottomline: You need a new print head.

Brilliant, thanks stratman. At least I know what the issue is now. I was going to try the hot water trick but looks like I'd be wasting my time. So I can get a printhead for about €175, all I need is the know how on what to do to replace it. Cheaper option than a new printer anyway.

Working with Pro 1 print heads is NOT like other Canon printers. Beyond that I cannot advise. Seek out the advice of our Moderator @The Hat before attempting any further print head maneuvers or use of the printer.

I will pipe in here, but there’s no more to be said because @stratman has covered all the angles, if you can source a new print head, then PM me and I will give you the information that you require to replace the print head safely.

You’ll also need at least 50% ink in all your carts to complete the job, and don’t try to open the printer till you have the proper instructions because this printer bites, and don’t get a print head from China.. Another option wold be to buy a Pro 10 new or used…

Ok, based on your expert advice, option 1, new printhead @ €175 and 50% filled cartridges, cost about €150 based on current fill status Option 2, €300 used Pro10s with 8 cartridges plus those in it, seems like a no brainer. Anything to look for in a Pro 10s?

Get as many spare carts as you can with the clips on but the most important thing of all is to see a clear nozzle check, nothing else matters..
Refilling the carts and resetting the waste ink and with plenty of print heads available… Long term the Pro 10 has a better further..

Thanks The Hat , great information and very helpful. One more question, is it possible to run a nozzle check from the printer itself or is a PC/Laptop required?

Well, thanks to the Hat and Stratman, I now have a PRO10s up and trying to sort best settings. Really appreciate the quick replies and solid information guys. Only ran one print so far but really pleased with the result. Undecided with what to do with the PRO-1 at the minute, partly thinking of getting a print head and holding on to it but we'll see. Great to know there is great support out there for printing. Once again, thank you both for your help, it was great to be able to identify the problem so fast. Cheers.
