Getting Fingers Dirty
I did a quick search and did not find anything about these so I am posting a review.
After years of refilling BCI-3e and BCI-6 carts, my desktop printer died and I moved to a printer that uses the PGI-5 and CLI-8 carts. I had been using G&G cats (from meritline) because I can get them for about $1-$2 per cart when on sale (for sets). No problem with using them but I was interested in a refillable solution and also in using up the HobbiColos ink that I had on hand.
I purchased the refillable carts here (http://www.printpayless.com/) about 2 weeks ago. I was unsure if they would really work but they were pre-filled and were about $25 so I thought I would give it a try. Please note: I have only used the PGI-5 and CLI-8 cartridges for the ip4300, I have not used any of their other products and cannot speak to their reliability. But so far I am happy with them.
I followed their instructions to a T and all the carts worked except the PGI-5. It was streaked and the printout was unreadable. (Note that all the carts leaked a little bit when I went to install them. This freaked me out a little. Next time I will let them leak out a little before installation into the printer. I believe they were over-filled). I pulled this cart, capped it with the orange cap, taped the air vents with aluminum foil tape and turned it upside down. I emailed them about the problem. They were very quick to respond (within 1-2 days) and asked for photos of the nozzle and the print-outs. I was out-of-town (for a death in the family) so I was a little delayed in getting back to them. In the meantime I was using the CLI-8 color carts (with a G7G black PGI-5) without any difficulty.
When I did get around to responding, I realized that I had already disposed of the print-outs so I re-installed the PGI-5 to get new print-outs to photograph. It worked perfectly! I was very happy with this and also the fact that the chips are ARC (Automatic Resetting Chips). I have plenty of HobbiColors ink to use for refilling and feel that I am set to go! I reported back to the company and their thought was that the PGI-5 had been over filled and that the time spend upside down (after some ink had leaked out) was what resolved the problem.
I have not yet needed to refill these, but I will report back when I do to report any additional problems or concerns.
I had asked if I could transfer the ARC to a Canon cartridge that I had modified for refilling but they did not answer me about that one. I prefer OEM carts if I can get them. I may try this in the future.
If any one else has experience with these carts or the ARC I would be interested in additional feedback. TIA!
