I have had all kinds of hassle with Webssearch and iStart and other vile things infecting our Windows PC recently and I'm really afraid to download stuff now.
Have you successfully removed iStart and Webssearch? It looks to be a stubborn browser hijacker.

There are a variety of web pages that discuss removal. I read through one of them at http://malwaretips.com/blogs/istart-webssearches-com-removal/. It seems an involved process! At least the documentation appears complete and easy enough to be followed.

There were a couple of new (to me) applications used in the instructions. One is "AdwCleaner". Do read the red/pink warning box on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ before using as it may save you a step or two down the road. (Bleepingcomputer has been a trusted source for internet security for years).

The other application I was not familiar with is "Hitman Pro." Again, this can be found at http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/hitmanpro/ along with a nice synopsis of the application you can read. It appears this application allows a "Free Scan for a second opinion," which is what you want in your particular situation.

When you have successfully eradicated the browser hijacker I would uninstall Hitman Pro. AdcCleaner I might leave on, though I would need to see it before deciding. I would definitely leave Malwarebytes Anti-malware installed as I use it to scan certain downloaded files, and, it is very useful to already have installed if one gets infected in the future.

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot! I managed to get rid of them using Malwarebytes which I always have at the ready, and then I got rid of the rest manually, but it was a chore. I really hate this junk! So, I am really afraid to download the Canon Service Tool now....
