I've had a few Canon Ip4300's for a few years now, and I've reset the ink absorber a few times. (it's been awhile since the last reset) So today the message came up that it was time to change the ink absorber pads.
So I goggled the instructions for the reset sequence. This time however, it would act like it was in service mode (alternating yellow/green) on the hit resume twice part, however it just would not give me a solid green. it would give the solid green and the error blink for the pads.

Long story short and several tries, the only variance with the Ip4300 is this: The inner cover must be open when you do the reset sequence. (not the lid, the inner cover)

Hopefully this saves somebody the 2 hours I wasted today.

Inner cover must be open

1) Power off printer
2) Hold RESUME button then press and hold POWER. (The beeper MAY sound once, or may not depending on your model.)
3) Hold POWER and Release RESUME.
4) Press RESUME twice then release both POWER and RESUME buttons.
5) When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME 4 times
6) Press power to set data.

You find a simplified service manual for the iP4300 here: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&...4wThhP&sig=AHIEtbTZRmac8BzQkMI59qrP1kNl5pTzmg . Service mode operations are on page 15 and on.

Like in many other service manuals for printers of the PGI-5/CLI-8 generation there is an error in the service mode instructions. The very important information that after selecting the operation you wish to perform, the power button serves as an enter button, is missing. See this post: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=49752#p49752

Your procedure from Google is correct, it includes using the power button as an "enter" button after selecting an operation, but I think that having the service manual is an advantage. I have never heard or read about that the inner cover must be open to reset the ink absorber counter. Neither the simplified service manual nor Druckerchannel's instructions mention this.

Resetting the absorber counter doesn't make the ink go away and you risk a nasty ink spill, especially if you reset the counter more than once. For instructions on how to change the ink absorbers see this: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artike...ntank_beim_canon_pixma_ip4300_ip5300_tauschen or a Google translation into English: http://translate.google.dk/translat...ntank_beim_canon_pixma_ip4300_ip5300_tauschen
