Besides my Epson R3000 I have a Canon Pixma iX6520 (which BTW is a very good inexpensive A3+, 5 ink color printer). I use Abacus compatible inks which I'm very happy with.

I use the 6520 printer strictly for text, text with color and an occasional photo just to compare to R3000 photo. The 5 inks I show on my Status Monitor are: PGI 225 Black Pigment, CLI 226 Black, CLI 226 Cyan, CLI 226 Magenta, CLI 226 Yellow. 4 of the 5 inks show 1/3 inks remaining while the CLI 226 Black shows completely full.

My question: What do I have to print to show movement in the CLI 226 Black ink cart?

Thank you
Andrew

2 things:

choose high quality photo paper setting and print pictures with black. The photo black is only used to increased contrast of dark shadows and for pure black area's. Note: printing with normal paper setting will use the pigment PGI-225 cartridge, because this is pigment ink, which does not adhere well on photo papers (it will flake off, when you rub over it).

You were right Pharmacist as usual. What you told me made sense but I didn't have a clue about it. I did as you instructed and I now see movement in my black ink cart.

Thanks again
Andrew
