Resetter for Epson 3800/3880 cartridges

I purchased two resetters for resetting the chips on the carts of the 3800 Pro. Only didn't function at all and the other one could not reset LK, LLK and LM.
Finally I followed the advise from Joe Rodriguez (jtoolman) to buy from a company in Florida on Ebay:

I can confirm that this resetter is resetting all carts without a problem!

Same for me:
This one does not reset LK LLK VM

The one from Florida (link above) resets all colors.
And also the maintenance cart (although they offer one as ink resetter and one as maintenance resetter..)

PS: Does anybody know if the now non-working resetters in the past were able to reset all cartridges for 3880? And any idea what now makes them unable? Changes in the actual chips on the carts.. or in the printer.. firmware updates hidden or intentional..??..
