I am thinking this is probably a stupid question but here goes :/

I am about to start refilling Canon Carts.

I am pretty happy with the procedure, but want to ask what you guys do when you refill Canon carts to stop them leaking?

Obviously fit the orange cap to refill but what do you do to store your spare carts without any risk of leakage through the outlet port?

Or am I wrong in thinking that people fill a spare set, and have them ready to change out the empty ones?

Using the german method, cartridges should not leak. Keeping a second set ready to use is very convenient.

I put their orange caps (with aftermarket cartridges, as OEM would need electrical tape, rubber bands or something to hold them) and store the spare set in a small plastic tupper. My main concern is avoid excessive evaporation or cartridge drying.

You can search more information about cartridge storing in the forum, for example there are good explanations by ghwellsjr in http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=29768#p29768 and http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5240 .
