I have been happy two avoid full cleaning cycles, when there are a few missing lines on the nozzle check, by refilling the inks instead.

I have an R2000, but this probably works for others. I run a nozzle check every time before I print, and on more than one occasion, I've had a couple of missing nozzles. Instead of running purge files, or running cleaning cycles, I take the opportunity to refill all the dampers. I press the ink button and take my time refilling in situ. When I'm done, I press the ink button again and the printer does a prime, even if you do not reset ink levels. I think it is time based, but I don't know what the threshold is.

The result is a very small amount of ink in the waste tank, and no more missing nozzles. It's worked several times, and is probably not a coincidence.
