I would say if you wanted good photos and in the case of this printer
I’ve heard great photos then most definitely none of them, no no no.

When Canon launched these newer printer they changed all of the colours ever so slightly,
so individual colours support and complement each other in this set. :hugs

Your first 5 colours will work perfectly alright but probably not in the way you’d expect.

hmmmmm.......

how about the ink from my MP830 vs PRO-100 ?

MP830 carts:
CLI-8BK Black
CLI-8C Cyan
CLI-8M Magenta
CLI-8Y Yellow

PIXMA PRO-100 carts:
CLI-42 Black
CLI-42 Magenta
CLI-42 Cyan
CLI-42 Yellow
CLI-42 Gray
CLI-42 Photo Cyan
CLI-42 Photo Magenta
CLI-42 Light Gray

looks like the Pro-100 is an offspring to the Pro-9000 that used eight CLI8's

PIXMA PRO-9000:
CLI-8 Black
CLI-8 Magenta
CLI-8 Cyan
CLI-8 Yellow
CLI-8 Photo Cyan
CLI-8 Photo Magenta
CLI-8 Red
CLI-8 Green

The MP830 uses the Chromalife 100 ink set, the MP980 and the Pro 100 use the newer Chromalife 100+ ink set. Maybe your inks for the MP980 will be usable. But I think refill inks should all be the same brand or colours might be way off, not what you would expect from a high-end dedicated photo printer. Profiling might solve this problem, but you would then have to invest in hard- and software.

No I reckon you could safely use mikling’s Pro 100 inks in your MP830 without any hassle
and I use several CLI-42 cartridges instead of CLI-8’s in a couple of my printers
with a chip change of course.. :D
